Boulevard customers are deeply passionate about what they do, and their needs are nuanced and mission-critical. As a Principal Engineer at Boulevard, you’ll play a critical role in defining the long-term technical vision for our platform and ensuring we are prepared to scale for the future.
This is a company-wide role with broad scope and visibility. You’ll lead high-impact architectural initiatives, drive alignment across teams, and establish engineering standards that raise the bar across the organization. Your ability to navigate ambiguity, set clear direction, and mentor others will multiply the impact of every engineer at Boulevard.
Key ResponsibilitiesSet technical direction: Define and evolve the long-term architecture and technical strategy for Boulevard’s platform, ensuring scalability, resilience, and flexibility for future growth.
Lead complex initiatives: Drive cross-team, high-impact projects from concept through production, ensuring clear tradeoffs, alignment, and measurable outcomes.
Raise the bar: Establish engineering best practices for design, performance, reliability, and security, setting the standard for excellence across the org.
Mentor and grow talent: Guide and develop senior and staff engineers, helping them expand their technical leadership and multiply their impact.
Champion reliability and resilience: Own systemic improvements in observability, availability, and operational efficiency; ensure the platform is both robust and adaptable.
Influence across functions: Partner with Product, Design, and leadership to align business priorities with technical direction, balancing customer needs with long-term platform health.
Proven experience architecting and scaling large, complex systems in high-growth environments.
Deep expertise in distributed systems, APIs, and data modeling.
Proficiency in modern backend languages (e.g., Python, Java, Go); Elixir is a plus.
A track record of defining technical strategy and guiding organizations through key architectural transformations.
Strong ability to influence across teams and communicate clearly with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Demonstrated success mentoring senior engineers and shaping engineering culture at scale.
How we’ll take care of you:
Your starting total cash compensation (base salary + bonus) for this role is between $253,000 - $276,000 depending on your current skills, experience, training, and overall market demands. This salary range is subject to change, and there is always room for growth and advancement.
