YOUR MISSION

As a Principal RF Electrical Engineer at True Anomaly, you will be responsible for high level architecture development and design with a forward looking perspective to bring key differentiation capabilities to the platform. This role will lead the design, development, and testing of RF systems across our space and ground hardware. You will work closely with a team of engineers and technicians to ensure the highest level of quality, reliability, and performance of our spacecraft. You will own the full lifecycle of your system, from concept through on-orbit operation. There may be opportunities to lead small teams of engineers.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Participate in future looking trades that feed into rapid design, development, and testing of high-reliability RF and communications systems for spacecraft engineering and development efforts
  • Develop requirements that will drive component selection, analysis, and meet the needs of the sub-system  
  • Develop and refine analytical tools including link budgets, ranging budgets, compatibility assessment, antenna pattern generation, and RF scattering analysis
  • Oversee the selection and integration of RF components, including Software Defined Radios, amplifiers, filters, couplers, switches, and antennas into spacecraft systems
  • Develop and maintain documentation for RF systems and components, including design specifications, test plans, and operating procedures
  • Define validation approach and create development and qualification testing campaigns 
  • Lead first article testing, unit level testing, production testing, and troubleshooting efforts
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers on the team
  • Continuously improve RF Engineering processes and practices to drive innovation and efficiency

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field 
  • 12+ years of experience in RF system design and development for aerospace applications
  • Demonstrated experience with RF systems design and necessary analysis to show compliant solutions
  • Deep experience with spacecraft communication systems, including S-band, X-band, Ka-band, and other frequency bands as applicable
  • Expertise in satellite communication link optimization, including Doppler shift compensation and error correction coding
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills  

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Master's degree in aerospace, electrical engineering or related field 
  • Experience with LEO, GEO, or Cislunar/Deep Space missions
  • Experience with regulatory licensing, filing, and processes
  • Experience with encryption algorithms, preferable NSA Type 1
  • Experience with software-defined radios (SDRs) and their application in space communication systems
  • Advanced experience in RF simulation software (Matlab, FEKO, CST, HFSS, etc.)   
  • Knowledge of space communication protocols, including CCSDS, DVB-S2, and others
  • Familiarity with RF GSE and subsystem testing
  • Hands-on experience with RF test equipment, such as network analyzers, spectrum analyzers, and signal generators
  • Mixed signal electronics design experience
  • Antenna design and development
  • Previous team management experience
  • Experience working in a fast-paced, startup environment or a similarly dynamic setting

COMPENSATION 

  • California Base Salary: $180,000-$240,000
  • Equity + Benefits including Health, Dental, Vision, HRA/HSA options, PTO and paid holidays, 401K, Parental Leave 

Your actual level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: job related knowledge and skills, education, location and experience. 

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS 

  • Ability to maintain or obtain TS//SCI clearance 
  • Work Location: LB or Centennial 
  • Work environment is in a standard office, working at a desk or in a production factory. 
  • Physical demands may include frequent standing, sitting, walking, bending, and lifting or carrying items up to 20lbs. 

To conform to U.S. Government space technology export regulations, including the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) you must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
