Job Description:

What You’ll Be Doing:

Principal, Product Strategy will play a key role in supporting strategic initiatives across the Mortgage Solutions group, including managing the division’s capital allocation process—referred to as the Playbook Process—and leading efforts in competitive and market intelligence. This role requires a strong analytical mindset, strategic thinking, and the ability to collaborate across product, finance, marketing, and executive teams.

This individual will work closely with Solution Owners and other cross-functional leaders to ensure resources are effectively aligned with strategic priorities, while also providing deep insights into market dynamics, competitive positioning, and emerging opportunities. This role is instrumental in translating market understanding into actionable recommendations for product investment and growth.

Key Responsibilities:

Playbook Process & Strategic Coordination:

  • Coordinate the capital allocation (Playbook) process for the Mortgage Solutions group, ensuring initiatives are aligned to strategic goals and tracked against performance.

  • Partner with Finance, Product, and Solution Owners to gather inputs, assess business cases, and support prioritization decisions.

  • Develop and maintain reporting tools and frameworks to evaluate strategic investments and identify potential resource shifts.

  • Competitive & Market Intelligence:

  • Build and manage a comprehensive competitive intelligence program, providing actionable insights to inform product strategy, sales enablement, and go-to-market plans.

  • Conduct market research and synthesize findings on trends, customer needs, regulatory shifts, and industry developments.

  • Create and maintain competitor profiles, SWOT analyses, and benchmarking reports to support Solution Owners and the Senior Leadership Team.

  • Strategic Analysis & Support:

  • Support the Mortgage Solutions strategy by identifying white space opportunities and analyzing new and adjacent markets.

  • Collaborate with Product and Marketing teams to define Total Addressable Market (TAM), evaluate solution fit, and assess market entry strategies.

  • Track and report on key metrics to assess product-market alignment and solution performance over time.

Cross-Functional Collaboration:

  • Act as a liaison between Product Strategy and key functions including Product Management, Marketing, Sales, and Finance.

  • Contribute to the preparation of strategic presentations, business reviews, and planning sessions.

  • Support industry partnership efforts by coordinating research, relationship insights, and strategy alignment.

Job Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Finance, Marketing, Strategy, related field or equivalent work experience; MBA or relevant graduate degree is a plus.

  • 7+ years of experience in product strategy, business analysis, or strategic planning—preferably within the mortgage, financial services, information services, or technology sectors.

  • Experience supporting capital planning, investment prioritization, or strategic resource allocation processes.

  • Strong understanding of the mortgage industry landscape, including lenders, GSEs, fintech players, and B2B service providers.

  • Proven ability to synthesize complex information into executive-ready insights and recommendations.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Exceptional analytical and research skills; proficiency with tools such as Excel, PowerPoint, Tableau, or similar.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with an ability to influence and collaborate across levels.

  • Highly organized, with a strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities.

  • Comfortable working in a matrixed environment and driving initiatives without direct authority.

  • Strong business acumen and a proactive, solutions-oriented mindset.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
