HealthJoy has garnered workplace awards for Inc.’s Fastest Growing Startups and Built In Chicago’s Best Places to Work while growing globally to nearly 375 team members. We’re continuing down the path of high growth and high impact, and this role is a key member of the Product team making that happen.

Your Impact

We are seeking a Principal Product Manager to lead the strategy and execution for our steerage solutions. This role is unique in its focus on developing steerage destinations that align with our Broker Partner strategy. You will be responsible for creating and managing a portfolio of high-value providers, services, and point solutions that our Broker Partners can leverage to create superior benefits packages for their clients. This includes managing and maintaining any vendor integrations as well as vetting new steerage opportunities that come through our Broker Partners. You will work closely with cross-functional teams and external third-party vendors to optimize our steerage programs, driving significant cost savings for our clients and improving care quality for our members.

What You’ll Do
  • Product Strategy: Define and own the product roadmap for our steerage solutions, with a specific focus on opportunities that enhance our value proposition to Broker Partners and their clients. Develop a clear vision and strategy for identifying and prioritizing high-impact steerage destinations.
  • Broker Partnership Alignment: Collaborate directly with our Broker Partner team to understand their needs and market demands. Proactively identify and vet new steerage opportunities that can be delivered through our Broker Partners, ensuring they align with our overall business strategy.
  • Vendor Management & Integration: Manage relationships with third-party vendors, including health systems, claims data vendors, specialty networks, and digital health companies. This includes not only evaluating potential partners and negotiating contracts but also taking on the responsibility for managing and maintaining existing vendor integrations.
  • Optimize utilization funnels: You'll use your expertise to identify and implement strategies that increase revenue and reduce costs. This includes closely monitoring key metrics, such as conversion rates and user drop-off points, and using these insights to make data-driven decisions that will boost user engagement and business value.
  • Feature Development: Lead the product development lifecycle from ideation to launch for new steerage features and destinations. Write detailed product requirements, user stories, and acceptance criteria.
  • Data Analysis: Use data to measure the effectiveness of the point solutions. Analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) such as steerage rates, utilization, cost savings, and member engagement to inform product decisions and identify new opportunities.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Work with internal teams, including Engineering, Design, Data Science, Marketing, and Sales, to ensure alignment and successful execution of the product roadmap. Serve as the subject matter expert for steerage solutions.
  • Market Research: Stay current on market trends, competitive landscapes, and regulatory changes in healthcare benefits navigation and steerage, particularly as they relate to the broker and benefits consultant channel.
  • Leverage AI: Work closely with our AI & Steerage Engine teams to enhance the user experience and drive business growth.
What You’ll Bring
  • Experience: 7+ years of product management experience, preferably in the healthcare or health technology industry.
  • Domain Knowledge: Strong understanding of healthcare benefits, provider networks, claims data and the dynamics of healthcare costs. Experience working with or for benefits brokers, consultants, or health plans is highly desirable.
  • Third-Party Expertise: Proven experience in managing and integrating with third-party vendors, with the ability to maintain ongoing technical and business relationships.
  • Data-Driven: Demonstrated ability to use data to inform product decisions and measure success.
  • Communication: Excellent communication skills with the ability to articulate complex concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences, including external partners.
  • Problem-Solver: A resourceful, creative, and proactive problem-solver who can navigate ambiguity and complexity in a fast-paced environment.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
