This hybrid position will work remotely as well as onsite in our Sherman Oaks, CA office.

Human-in-the-Loop

At LegalZoom, we operate with a human-in-the-loop model, where AI enhances—rather than replaces—human judgment. We believe the strongest outcomes for our customers come from thoughtfully integrating human expertise with AI capabilities to improve accuracy, safety, and decision-making.

Overview

This Principal Product Manager drives 2 areas, owning a product line and growing the Product Management function.

First, you own Legal Plans and Intellectual Property (IP) Product Lines. These are products where our attorneys play the front and center role in solving key customer challenges. The Legal Plans give small business owners and families ongoing access to attorneys, providing critical advice and support on legal matters. Customers buy these when they start or expand a business or create an estate plan;  and your goal is to deliver the value and expand the promise of those plans. Intellectual Property covers the Patents, Trademarks, and Copyrights line which provides the support to protect the investments our customers have built.

Second, you raise the bar for the whole Product team through the Product Acceleration via our AI workflows. Critical to this area is understanding how best to leverage human judgment and pair it with AI workflows so that both are maximized. You will own how the team learns from customers at scale, and how every PM uses AI to move faster with better judgment. This will connect the PM craft to finance and Data Science to size ideas, connect to the design workflows to build and refine prototypes, connect to Engineering to build and then monitor and learn. The goal is to move the whole lifecycle with more precision and focus for all of the humans and agents in the process.

This is an individual contributor role with senior-level ownership and influence across Product, Engineering, Design, Data, Marketing, Sales, Finance, Customer Success, Attorney Operations, and Legal. It is built for a strategic product thinker who is hands-on, data-driven, and deeply grounded in the customer problem.

You will

  • Own strategy, roadmap, and results for Legal Plans and IP, accountable for acquisition, activation, retention, pricing, and unit economics.

  • Define the moments that matter in the customer lifecycle and design experiences that turn those moments into lasting value.

  • Expand the thinking on what customers need attorneys to support driving consideration for our services outside the current market.

  • Lead pricing, packaging, and attach strategy for plans, including how plans connect to formation, estate planning, and other LegalZoom products.

  • Partner with attorney operations and legal teams to improve the consultation experience, and with Engineering on platform migrations that affect plan products.

  • Run a disciplined experimentation program: frame hypotheses, size opportunities, ship quickly, and make the call from the evidence.

  • Own and evolve Product Acceleration as a product for your fellow PMs: set its roadmap, measure adoption and output quality, and expand it into the workflows where it saves the most time.

  • Build the function-wide customer insight engine. You must talk to customers and retain those insights and then combine NPS, support, chat, voice, web behavior, and churn data into a consistent view of top customer problems that every PM can use for planning.

  • Teach and coach PMs and influence the organization to work AI-first with good judgment: when to automate, when to review, and how to keep quality, compliance, and customer trust intact.

  • Present business cases and investment rationale to senior leaders, and set clear decision frameworks and metrics.

  • Elevate product craft across the team through influence and example, without needing direct reports.

You have

  • 8+ years of product management experience, including broad strategic scope and accountability for significant business outcomes.

  • Proven success owning a subscription or recurring revenue product end to end, with a track record of improving retention, engagement, and monetization.

  • Experience using customer interviews and data together to find the highest-impact problems and turn them into measurable improvements.

  • Hands-on experience building or adopting AI-driven workflows, and the judgment to know where they help and where they need human review.

  • Experience building shared tools, systems, or practices that make other teams better, and driving adoption through influence.

  • Strong analytical skills: you model changes, evaluate ROI, and make a recommendation you are willing to act on.

  • Experience influencing senior stakeholders in complex, matrixed environments, with excellent storytelling and executive presence.

  • The ability to operate at multiple altitudes, from long-term strategy to detailed execution, without losing momentum.

  • A bias toward action and a track record of delivering value quickly, then improving through feedback.

The salary range for this role is ($161,600-$287,200). Actual compensation offered will depend on several factors including but not limited to: geographic location, work experience, education, skill level, and/or other business and organizational needs. In addition, an annual bonus, incentive bonus and/or restricted stock units may be provided as part of the compensation package. What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
