Who we are
Samsara (NYSE: IOT) is the pioneer of the Connected Operations™ Cloud, which is a platform that enables organizations that depend on physical operations to harness Internet of Things (IoT) data to develop actionable insights and improve their operations. At Samsara, we are helping improve the safety, efficiency and sustainability of the physical operations that power our global economy. Representing more than 40% of global GDP, these industries are the infrastructure of our planet, including agriculture, construction, field services, transportation, and manufacturing — and we are excited to help digitally transform their operations at scale.
Working at Samsara means you’ll help define the future of physical operations and be on a team that’s shaping an exciting array of product solutions, including Video-Based Safety, Vehicle Telematics, Apps and Driver Workflows, and Equipment Monitoring. As part of a recently public company, you’ll have the autonomy and support to make an impact as we build for the long term.
About the role
Every day, the world’s largest fleets depend on maintenance operations to keep their vehicles and equipment running. When a truck breaks down on the side of a highway or a piece of heavy equipment fails on a job site, the cost isn’t just a repair bill — it’s missed deliveries, idle crews, compliance risk, and eroded customer trust. Despite the stakes, most maintenance teams still run on spreadsheets, whiteboards, and legacy systems that haven’t changed in decades. Samsara is changing that.
The Connected Asset Maintenance team is building Samsara’s next major product line — a modern, intelligent maintenance and asset management platform purpose-built for physical operations. We’re a few quarters in, moving fast, and building from the ground up. Think of this as a startup inside Samsara: a small, focused team with the full backing of a scaled platform, massive distribution, and millions of connected assets already generating the data that makes our product uniquely powerful.
We’re looking for a Principal Product Manager who will own a significant portion of our Maintenance product. You’ll report directly to the VP of Product & Engineering for the Business Unit. One week you might be in a maintenance garage watching a fleet technician diagnose an engine fault, and the next you’ll be whiteboarding a new workflow with your engineering team or jumping on a call with Sales to close a strategic deal. You’ll spend serious time on-site with customers — not just interviewing them, but learning their world: how work orders flow, how parts get tracked, how a maintenance director decides what gets fixed today versus next week. That depth of understanding is what separates good products from great ones in this space.
This is a remote position open to candidates residing in Canada.
You should apply if
- You want to build something from scratch: You’re energized by the blank canvas of a new product, not intimidated by it. You love 0-to-1 and you know what it takes — the scrappiness, the speed, the willingness to do whatever the product needs.
- You’re deeply curious about how the physical world works: You believe the best product insights come from being where the work actually happens, and you’re energized — not drained — by time in the field.
- You’re already using AI to make yourself faster: You don’t just build AI products — you use AI tools daily in your own work (writing specs, analyzing customer data, prototyping ideas, accelerating research). You see this as table stakes, not a nice-to-have.
- You are the architect of your own career: If you put in the work, this role won’t be your last at Samsara. We set up our employees for success and have built a culture that encourages rapid career development, countless opportunities to experiment and master your craft in a hyper-growth environment.
- You want to be with the best: At Samsara, we win together, celebrate together and support each other. You will be surrounded by a high-caliber team that will encourage you to do your best.
In this role, you will
- Become a domain expert in maintenance operations. Build deep, lasting relationships with customers — maintenance directors, fleet managers, technicians — and translate what you learn into product conviction that the team can rally around.
- Own the vision, strategy, and roadmap for your product area within Connected Asset Maintenance. Define where we’re going, why, and in what order — balancing customer value, technical feasibility, and business impact. Communicate it clearly to the team, to leadership, and to customers.
- Drive the full product lifecycle from discovery and definition through design, build, launch, and iteration. Set success criteria and stage-gates. Ensure we ship on time and at the quality bar our enterprise customers expect.
- Partner with Engineering and Design to build a world-class product. Bring strong opinions on UX and workflow design. Make crisp tradeoff decisions. Use AI tools aggressively to accelerate research, spec writing, and prototyping — and raise the bar for the team.
- Work cross-functionally with Sales, Customer Success, and Marketing to win strategic deals, drive adoption post-sale, and build the GTM playbook for a new product line. You’re not above jumping on a sales call or writing enablement materials.
- Champion, role model, and embed Samsara’s cultural principles (Focus on Customer Success, Build for the Long Term, Adopt a Growth Mindset, Be Inclusive, Win as a Team) as we scale globally and across new offices.
Minimum requirements for the role
- 6+ years in a software product management role, with demonstrated experience building a new product or business from early stages.
- A track record of deep customer engagement — building real relationships with customers and turning those insights into products that win.
- Strong technical fluency — you can go deep with engineers on data models, APIs, and system architecture, and you establish credibility quickly.
- Active use of AI tools in your day-to-day product work. You should be able to point to specific ways AI makes you faster and better today.
- Proven ability to set product vision and roadmaps, and to ship products that deliver measurable business results on tight timelines.
- Excellent communication skills — comfortable presenting to enterprise customers, senior executives, and cross-functional teams. Equally strong writing clear strategy documents and concise product specs.
- Comfort navigating ambiguity and driving clarity. You don’t wait for someone to tell you what to do — you figure it out and move.
An ideal candidate also has
- History of working on successful B2B enterprise products and working directly with large customers ($100K+ ARR).
- Experience as a founder or at an early-stage startup where you wore multiple hats and owned outcomes end-to-end.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a technical field.
