Principal Product Manager, Internal Developer Platforms & Open Source Programs

We are seeking a Principal Product Manager to drive the vision, strategy, and execution of Aerospike’s internal developer platform and open source product delivery. This role is pivotal to how we build and ship software — across both proprietary and open source channels — and directly impacts the consistency, efficiency, and reliability of the customer experience.

You will work cross-functionally with engineering teams, QE, Performance Engineering, DevOps, and Security to deliver a coherent platform strategy that supports scale, enforces quality, and simplifies delivery. The role combines product ownership with program leadership — focused on systems that power developer productivity and product delivery at Aerospike.

Key ResponsibilitiesPlatform Ownership & Strategy
  • Define and own the roadmap for the internal developer platform, including source control, artifact management, CI/CD pipelines, cloud infrastructure, observability systems, and related tooling.
  • Prioritize platform investments based on internal developer needs, strategic delivery goals, and product architecture requirements.
Maintain a portfolio view of platform systems, ensuring integration, consistency, and operational sustainability.
Open Source Strategy & Execution
  • Own and operationalize Aerospike’s open source strategy — with clear policies for what gets released as OSS, how it’s supported, and how it aligns to our product roadmap.
  • Develop and maintain a rubric for categorizing and managing open source projects based on strategic importance and delivery function.
  • Ensure open source projects are built, tested, and maintained to the same quality standards as proprietary software — including packaging, release automation, and documentation.
  • Treat OSS as a delivery model, not a side effort — supporting customer needs in self-managed environments and clarifying the boundaries of what Aerospike supports.
Stakeholder Collaboration
  • Partner with engineering teams, QE, Performance Engineering, DevOps, Security, and Product to gather feedback, identify friction, and define platform improvements.
  • Act as a senior voice in platform decisions, ensuring alignment between technical execution and broader business goals.
  • Ensure customer-facing delivery processes — whether proprietary or OSS — are consistent, auditable, and supportable.
Execution & Delivery
  • Drive the product lifecycle for platform systems — from planning and prioritization through rollout and measurement.
  • Lead cross-functional programs focused on delivery system improvements, including build performance, packaging consistency, and release traceability.
  • Define success metrics for platform initiatives, including adoption, developer efficiency, and delivery quality.
Innovation & Continuous Improvement
  • Stay current with best practices in developer experience, CI/CD, observability, and open source operations.
  • Identify opportunities to improve platform reliability and developer effectiveness through new tooling or process refinement.
Create feedback loops and operational insights to drive continuous improvement in both proprietary and OSS delivery models.
Required Qualifications

Experience

  • 5+ years of product management experience, with a strong focus on developer platforms, DevOps, or software delivery infrastructure.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead large, technical programs with significant cross-functional complexity.
  • Experience with delivery pipelines that support both proprietary and open source software components.
  • Familiarity with GitHub, artifact management systems (e.g., JFrog), CI/CD infrastructure, and cloud platforms (AWS, GCP).
  • Proven track record of improving developer productivity and system reliability at scale.

Skills

  • Strong technical fluency with the ability to collaborate deeply with engineers, architects, and DevOps leaders.
  • Excellent communication and prioritization skills, with the ability to manage tradeoffs and navigate ambiguity.
  • Structured approach to decision-making, grounded in outcomes, data, and system-level understanding.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working with large-scale distributed systems and multi-cloud infrastructure.
  • Knowledge of modern software delivery practices (e.g., containerization, infrastructure-as-code, Kubernetes).
  • Prior ownership of open source strategy or experience integrating OSS into a commercial delivery model.
  • Strong grounding in observability, release engineering, and developer experience metrics.Required Qualifications

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
