We’re looking for a visionary, detail-oriented Principal Product Designer to lead design for Yahoo’s Travel experiences. In this strategic role, you’ll shape the future of how people explore, plan, and book travel—crafting intuitive, delightful, and elevated experiences that help users dream, decide, and go.

You’ll collaborate closely with cross-functional teams—including Product Managers, Engineers, Researchers, Content Strategists, and fellow Designers—to build user-centered products that reflect Yahoo’s design excellence and product values. From early exploration to final polish, you’ll guide the end-to-end design process for new and existing travel experiences.

As a design leader, you’ll define and drive the vision for our travel ecosystem, from discovery and inspiration to personalized recommendations, itineraries, and booking flows. You’ll create experiences that are not only visually compelling and highly usable, but also deeply connected to the needs and behaviors of modern travelers.

We're especially interested in designers who embrace AI as a creative partner—leveraging new tools and technologies to enhance ideation, personalization, prototyping, and insight generation.

What You’ll Do:

  • Lead the design strategy and execution for Yahoo Travel products across web and mobile platforms.

  • Craft experiences that are immersive, accessible, and deeply aligned with the emotional journey of travel.

  • Drive the visual and interaction design direction with precision—bringing strong layout, typography, hierarchy, and storytelling to every detail.

  • Collaborate with product and engineering partners to align design vision with business and technical goals.

  • Work closely with user research and data science to turn insights into meaningful product direction.

  • Influence and inspire other designers through critique, mentorship, and shared systems thinking.

  • Partner with leadership to define long-term product vision, roadmap, and success metrics for the travel category.

About You:

  • 5+ years of experience designing consumer-facing products, with a strong portfolio that showcases end-to-end thinking and standout visual design.

  • Experience in travel, marketplaces, lifestyle, or content-driven experiences is a major plus.

  • Expert in crafting systems and experiences that scale across platforms and user needs.

  • Curious, optimistic, and excited to solve complex problems in elegant, user-first ways.

  • Comfortable navigating ambiguity, setting strategy, and making decisions with confidence.

  • Fluent in modern design and prototyping tools; AI-augmented design experience is a strong advantage.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
