Our Mission

ButterflyMX is on a mission to empower people to open and manage doors & gates from a smartphone. Our products are installed in more than 20,000+ multifamily, commercial, gated communities, and student-housing properties worldwide, including properties developed, owned, and managed by the most trusted names in real estate. Our features are designed for developers, owners, property managers, and tenants and our products lower operating costs and improve tenant satisfaction.

Our Solution:

Developers and owners no longer need to run building wiring or install in-unit hardware. Property managers can grant building access, revoke permissions, and review entry logs from an online dashboard. Residents can open doors from their smartphones, issue visitor access, and see who is trying to enter the building.

Our Culture & Values:

Fantastic people are the key to our success. As a distributed, primarily remote workforce, we’re looking for more intelligent, passionate, collaborative, ai-forward, and down-to-earth individuals to join our growing team. We’re driven by a shared commitment to excellence and innovation, grounded in our core values: We delight our customers, We take ownership, We are a community of collaborators, We speak up, We think big and do small, and We are tenacious.

Role Overview:

The old playbook doesn’t work anymore. AI isn’t just changing the tools we use; it fundamentally reshapes the way great products come to life. The most interesting work is now happening in the space between disciplines, where strategy and craft merge into something completely new.

We’re looking for someone who lives in this space. Someone who can’t help but think about business models while designing in Figma. Someone who considers user research as product strategy. Someone who knows that the best decisions often come from understanding the data and that the best product decisions often come from understanding the user experience and the pixels that bring it to life.

In this new and unique role, you own the full arc of product creation. This isn’t about wearing two hats or working two-hundred percent. It’s about recognizing that in our newly created AI-accelerated world, the most impactful products come from leaders who refuse to be boxed into traditional categories.

You’ll help pioneer what this new model of product development actually looks like, namely building workflows that harness AI’s potential while keeping human creativity and judgement at the center. This is bigger than any single product. You’ll shape how integrated product teams work in the future. Reporting directly to the Head of Design, you’ll have the authority and visibility to make this vision reality.

Responsibilities:
  • Drive substantial business outcomes that balance user needs, business objectives, and technical constraints across hardware and software touchpoints
  • Lead discovery efforts including user research, market analysis, and competitive intelligence
  • Establish success metrics that span the entire product experience
  • Partner with engineering, business, and executive teams to align on product and design direction, presenting concepts and rationale with confidence and clarity
  • Lead end-to-end design processes for major product features across web, mobile, and tablet experiences
  • Facilitate design sprints, workshops, and collaborative sessions that bring together diverse stakeholders
  • Build strong cross-functional relationships that ensure feasibility without compromising vision
  • Champion human-centered design while leveraging AI tools to accelerate and enhance design workflows
  • Maintain design standards and actively contribute to our design systems to ensure consistency and quality across all touchpoints
  • Partner with engineering and QA teams to ensure product and design excellence
  • Advocate for user-centered design principles and best practices
Requirements:
  • 8-12 years of hybrid product design and product management experience with a strong portfolio showcasing work across multiple platforms
  • Deep understanding of AI/ML capabilities and how they reshape product development workflows
  • Exceptional sense of ownership and care, combined with a high degree of agency. If you see something that doesn’t feel right, help make it right.
  • Fluency in modern design tools and prototyping methods
  • Strong analytical skills with experience in data-driven decision making
  • Excellent visual, written, and verbal communication abilities
  • Comfort with ambiguity and ability to bring clarity to complex, undefined problems
  • Systems thinking approach to product ecosystems

Benefits
  • Comprehensive Medical (ButterflyMX covers 90% of the cost), Dental, and Vision plans (ButterflyMX covers 100% of the cost) starting day 1
  • 401(k) plan with a match
  • 13 paid holidays, 25 PTO days
  • Paid Family Leave
  • Employee Assistance Program
  • Quarterly self-care stipends
  • Access to optional benefits including pre-tax flexible healthcare spending accounts (FSA and HSA), Dependent Care FSA, and Commuter Benefits, as well as optional Supplemental Life, AD&D, Hospital Indemnity, Disability, Legal, Accident, Critical Illness, Pet, and Personal Liability Insurance
  • And more!

ButterflyMX is an equal opportunity employer and we value diversity at our company. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, color, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, veteran status, or disability status. You must have the authorization to work in the US to become an employee. We strive to create an accessible and inclusive experience for all candidates and employees. If you need reasonable accommodations during the application or the recruiting process, please let our recruiting team know.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
