The Avionics team is responsible for all aspects of the electrical systems and hardware on Astrolab’s electric rover vehicles and ground support equipment. We work collaborative with all teams at Astrolab to provide exceptionally capable and reliable electronics to serve our missions.

The Principal Power Electrical Engineer will participate in all aspects of the development and test of power avionics hardware for Astrolab rovers. The ideal candidate has 15+ years of experience in power electronics design, including schematic capture, PCB layout, and testing.
This position will report to the Director of Avionics Engineering and will be based in our Hawthorne, CA office.
What you'll do:
- Own the development of vehicle power electronics from clean sheet to flight. For example: solar power conversion, battery management systems, power distribution and load management, voltage regulators, etc
- Develop and implement PCBA requirements, use-cases, and system integration
- Schematic capture and PCBA layout for power and analog circuits in Altium Designer
- Design analysis including power, size, mass, Monte Carlo tolerances, and reliability related
- PCBA design verification testing, qualification testing, and system integration testing
- Lead design reviews for inter-disciplinary audiences
- Manufacturing and flight support as needed
What you'll bring:
- Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or equivalent
- 15+ years of experience in power electronics design including schematic capture, PCB layout, and testing
- Expertise in solar power, voltage regulation, load management, fault protection, power transmission, analog instrumentation, and digital circuits
- Skilled at schematic capture and layout of complex PCBAs
- Skilled at performing circuit analyses in SPICE and Excel
- Proficiency with basic electronic lab equipment such as power supplies, oscilloscopes, DMMs, signal generators, soldering iron, etc
- Demonstrated success working in a dynamic environment
