The Principal Architect will take the lead to drive strategy and innovation in the evaluation of existing systems and technologies and development of strategic solutions and blueprints to solve stated business challenges. The principal architect will drive the development and refinement of our Enterprise Architecture Framework. The incumbent will provide architectural leadership across our organization’s systems, products, and technologies. They will lead our Enterprise Architecture teams and have significant collaboration with external partners to ensure that technology decisions and blueprints align with the overall Enterprise Architecture Framework.

  • The ability to determine an enterprise direction given a business outcome and enterprise architecture standards.

  • The ability to solve complex, critical problems related to significant and unique issues affecting the enterprise.

  • Ability to make sound judgements across portfolios while understanding the overall organization and enterprise fit and needs.

Provide expertise across the Enterprise

  • Research and maintain knowledge in emerging technology strategies and the possible application to the business & technology processes.

  • Research, evaluate and recommend technologies that support enterprise current or future company strategies.

  • Analyze industry, technology, and market trends to determine their potential impacts on the enterprise.

Provide architectural leadership across the Organization

  • Lead the creation of governing principles to guide the enterprise IT Strategy and solution decisions for the enterprise.

  • Drive cross-product, cross-functional architecture alignment to deliver technology initiatives that meet our enterprise architecture standards.

  • Identify business needs that affect the enterprise architecture and provide solutions that integrate into the overall architectural vision and strategy.

  • Work closely with subject matter experts and technology discipline leaders to continually enhance reference architecture, technology standards, policy and governance.

  • Maintain an organization-wide view on current and future business and application architecture in support of goals and objectives.

Collaborating Across Teams

  • Promote cross team adherence to architecture standards and target architecture.

  • Supports and provides broad expertise to other architects when collaborating across teams to create solutions that lead to outcomes.

  • Broker architecture differences across portfolios to achieve outcomes for the most critical technology and/or strategic priorities for the organization.

Collaborating Across the Organization

  • Able to provide architecture leadership to large scale business and technology initiatives across the enterprise/company.

  • Drive solutions that fully meet our enterprise architecture standards.

  • Lead the definition of new standards and principals when we encounter gaps with current standards.

  • Support, communicate and gain alignment for the Thrivent Strategies across the organization. Help identify the impact of Thrivent Strategies on the architecture and systems.

  • Identify the organizational impact (for example, on skills, processes, technology and culture) and financial impact of the enterprise Architecture.

  • Define and execute the company’s enterprise architecture values and standards for acquiring or developing systems, equipment, or software within the company.

Coaching Architects and Engineers

  • Coach / mentor other team members as appropriate.

  • Recruits, develops, and sustains a high-performing team while promoting a culture of shared accountability, operational excellence, and partnership across the organization

Recruiting and Building Talent

  • Engage in the tech community to build the Thrivent technology brand and position as the employer of choice in the market.

  • Contributes / helps in the recruitment process to hire the right engineering talent for the organization.

  • Models Thrivent’s leadership competencies - Model the Way, Rally the Team and Deliver Outcomes.

 Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or other technical field or equivalent work experience

  • 15+ years progressively responsible positions in Information Technology or related fields

  • 10+ years of experience in Enterprise Architecture, application architecture and/or software development

Preferred: 

  • Master’s Degree

  • Financial Services industry experience

The applicable salary or hourly wage range for this full-time role is $161,436.00 - $218,415.00 per year, which factors in various geographic regions. The base pay actually offered will be determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to, location, relevant experience, skills, and knowledge, business needs, market demand, and other factors Thrivent deems important.
