As a Principal Engineer (PE) within Identity & Access Management (IAM), you will champion and influence long-term vision for identity security in an AI-enabled enterprise. This role is focused on lifting Thrivent’s IAM capabilities by providing technical leadership for Thrivent's Identity and Access Management (IAM) strategy, enabling teams to deliver secure, scalable, observable, and low-friction identity capabilities across the enterprise. The leader will strengthen IAM maturity through enterprise standards, reusable patterns, and modern identity services that can be consistently adopted across portfolios. Success in this role will be measured by the organization’s ability to delivery identity-enabled capabilities more safely and consistently.
As the organization's senior IAM technical authority, this role will shape the future of digital trust by addressing emerging capabilities such as Agentic AI, Generative AI, machine identities, autonomous systems, and digital workforce technologies. The role drives the evolution of authentication, authorization, governance, and identity-centric security, ensuring teams can securely consume IAM capabilities through scalable, composable, and product-oriented services rather than one-off implementations. In addition, this leader is responsible for building and maturing the IAM organization's governance, detection, monitoring, and operational oversight capabilities, enabling proactive management of identity risk, policy compliance, privileged access activities, and emerging identity-based threats across the enterprise. Through the development of sustainable platforms, processes, and engineering practices, the role strengthens the IAM team's ability to govern, monitor, detect, and respond at scale while advancing the organization's overall security posture.
You will operate at the intersection of cybersecurity, AI, enterprise architecture, and product engineering, translating rapidly evolving technology trends into secure, scalable, and resilient identity capabilities so that teams can adopt, operate, and stay up to date with consistent, versioned offerings. The role requires deep expertise in identity architecture, AI-enabled threat models, enterprise security design, and strategic systems thinking. You will influence technology direction across portfolios, establish enterprise standards and guardrails, mentor engineering leaders, and partner with executive stakeholders to ensure Thrivent's identity ecosystem remains secure and future-ready and aligned to product/platform outcomes.
Success in this role will be measured by the organization's ability to deliver identity-enabled capabilities more safely, consistently, and efficiently across the enterprise. This includes building reusable IAM capabilities, patterns, and guardrails that enable and upskill product, engineering, and platform teams to deliver identity-related solutions with greater autonomy and confidence. Success also requires fostering strong cross-functional partnerships to rapidly design and implement secure, scalable solutions, reducing delivery friction while maintaining appropriate governance, risk management, and security outcomes.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
