Job DescriptionPRINCIPAL ENGINEER -- ACCY: MECHANICAL & ANALYTICS

Essential Functions:

Leads projects and initiatives with broad scope and high impact to the business while being a recognized expert in the field of power generation accessories and system design. Responsible for major and complex assignments with long-term business implications. This role contributes to the overall strategy and manages complex issues within mechanics, fluid dynamics and process integration/operation/control of power plant sub systems. The PE shall demonstrate accountability for functional, business, and broad company objectives in the field of Design Engineering, focusing on Heavy-Duty Gas Turbine (HDGT) Accessories associated with Mechanical Hardware, Fluids and Analytics. The candidate shall support the Inquiry to Remittance (ITR) Services organization, with focus on Conversions, Modifications & Up-rates (CM&U). The selected individual shall be involved in the long-term planning & development of Accessories System Engineering processes to meet business objectives. In this role, the individual shall contribute to the Gas Power business priorities while guiding the execution of complex projects across the global engineering team. Additional responsibilities include :

  • Provide primary technical consultation & leadership for Accessories Mechanical Hardware and Fluid Systems.
  • Harmonize and maintain common Design Engineering Analytical Tools and job aids across the Services ITR organization.  Provide technical leadership in the areas of Pipe Stress, Structural Analysis, CFD and Flow simulation/modeling.
  • Maintain an active role in developing and defining state-of-the-art Accessories Mechanical and Fluid system designs, processes and test procedures.  Anticipate, apply, adapt and develop technologies for New Product Introduction (NPI), while improving the quality, performance, reliability and cost of Services based products.
  • Identify, evaluate, develop and introduce engineering solutions to meet strategic business needs for HDGT applications. 
  • Provide leadership, experience and knowledge to proactively identify technical risks and implement corrective actions and strategies to solve critical business problems.
  • Provide technical consultation to cross-functional teams throughout the business and across GE Vernova Gas Power to improve or resolve product quality. Partner with Fleet Management, Product Safety, Project Management Organization (PMO), Applications Engineering, Requisition Management and other COEs to deliver best-in-class solutions for customers.
  • Provide leadership and guidance during design review processes and represent the Chief Engineer’s Office in matters related to safety, quality and design excellence (including formal and informal design reviews).  Guide the team in the preparation & presentation of technical content while supporting and leading Technical Reviews.
  • Effectively communicate and provide recommendations through the analysis, preparation and presentation of technical data to internal and external GE Vernova customers.
  • Support the creation of technical proposals and drive development and execution of NPIs to meet business needs.
  • Prepare invention disclosures to protect technology that gives the business a competitive advantage, as well as protecting the intellectual property rights of the company.
  • Provide technical mentoring to the global ITR engineering team and drive the creation of a pipeline of technical experts.
  • Lead global project risk reviews and assessments to identify and mitigate margin erosion during a project’s lifecycle.
  • Provide technical consultation to cross-functional teams to improve or resolve manufacturing, supplier, site issues & drive a reduction in Cost of Poor Quality during the design, installation and commissioning of Services products.  Partner with the cross functional CTH community & share lessons learned across the Gas Power business.
  • Drive rigor across the global team for timely closure of ER/NCR/RCAs and eliminate systemic repeat hardware failures by improving design practices, operating manuals and quoted offerings.
  • Organize and lead the development of standard global accessories toolsets that enable consistent quality and standard work across the design centers.
  • Recognized technical expert mechanics, fluid dynamics and process integration/control of power plant sub systems.
  • Provides consultation to management, all design organizations, and supplier organizations; Enhance technical excellence in assigned design organizations.
  • Remains cognizant of state-of-the-art power generation auxiliary and balance of plant equipment.
  • Identify and recommend where improvements in knowledge of the specific discipline are needed or where technical training is needed.
  • Establish a total quality management strategy to assure early involvement on design, manufacturing process/producibility matters.
  • Suggest areas where technology advancements are needed and recommend approaches/programs to pursue.
  • Lead/support study teams to address top problems within the organization or projects in focused technical areas.
  • Consult with and support the Chief Engineer’s Office in the execution of technical goals of the office.

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • B.E/B.Tech/ BS in Engineering (Aeronautical, Aerospace, Chemical or Mechanical).
  • A minimum of 15 years of experience in an engineering capacity.
  • Deep domain expertise in Accessories Mechanical design, including GT Inlets, Exhausts, Enclosures, Ventilation Systems and Structural components with special focus on brownfield projects.
  • Vast knowledge of Accessory Systems including operability, controls, performance and operational philosophies.  Domain expertise in Accessory compressible and incompressible fluid systems, including Cooling and Sealing Air, Purge, Atomizing Air, Cooling Water and Liquid Fuel.
  • Highly skilled in Problem Solving and Field Issue Resolution; including demonstrated examples leading through technical/organizational ambiguity
  • Strong analytical capabilities associated with Flow Simulators, Pipe Stress and Structural Design.
  • Proven ability to develop and mentor others.
  • Demonstrated urgency and action to identify value opportunities for SDQC priorities and capability to communicate the plan and pace to closure.
