About You

You are a technical leader who can guide Onebrief’s overall data strategy. Your are mission-driven and have experience in Defense Tech. You have business acumen and are comfortable owning a problem from discovery through delivery. Most importantly, you like to get stuff done!

What you will achieve

As our first Principal Data Engineer, you will be instrumental in designing and implementing a scalable, secure, and high-performance data platform. This role offers the opportunity to build our data engineering function from the ground up, influencing both technical direction and team development.

This is a hands-on role. You will work at the macro level, designing, and improving our architecture and data pipelines. You will also work at the micro level, providing advice to product/engineering and sales teams working on specific data integrations.

Qualifications
  • 8+ years in software and/or data engineering, with a focus on building data platforms.

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) field.

  • Proficiency in SQL, Python, and TypeScript.

  • Expertise in PostgreSQL and cloud-based relational databases (e.g., AWS RDS).

  • Deep knowledge of data streaming tools (e.g., Kafka), data orchestration tools (e.g., Apache Airflow,), and data visualization tools (e.g., Apache Superset).

  • 3+ years of experience working with ETL and ELT.

  • Experience with cloud services (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP) and Infrastructure as Code.

  • Strong diagramming, documenting, and collaborating skills with the ability to tailor complex concepts to audiences with varying levels of technical depth.

  • Proven ability to lead projects and mentor engineers.

  • Active Department of Defense Top Secret clearance with SCI eligibility.

  • Ability to obtain and maintain special program access within a reasonable period of time as determined by the needs of the business.

Compensation Range: $180K - $240K
