Location: Atlanta, GA, Washington, DC, NYC, Richmond, VA, Charlotte, NC 

Location Type: Hybrid (1-2 days onsite per week) - Home Office/Local Ippon office

About the position:

We are currently seeking a Principal Data Engineering Consultant with significant expertise in the Snowflake Data Cloud to serve as an advisor to our clients who are facing primarily non-engineering, data-related challenges. This person will need to seamlessly transition between pre-sales meetings, delivering complex technical architectures, and defining strategic goals and roadmaps for the business. We are looking for someone to help improve our data management offerings, leveraging the capabilities of Snowflake, and position our organization for long-term success with our data-driven clients.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Client Advisory and Strategic Consulting:
  • Act as a trusted advisor to clients, understanding their business challenges and translating them into actionable data strategies.
  • Conduct thorough assessments of client data environments and identify opportunities for optimization and improvement using Snowflake.
  • Develop and present strategic data roadmaps, outlining key initiatives and timelines to achieve client business goals.
  • Lead pre-sales engagements, demonstrating the value of Snowflake and our data management services to prospective clients.

  • Snowflake Architecture and Implementation:
  • Design and implement scalable and efficient data architectures within the Snowflake Data Cloud.
  • Develop and optimize data pipelines for data ingestion, transformation, and loading (ETL/ELT) within Snowflake.
  • Configure and manage Snowflake features, including virtual warehouses, data sharing, and security.
  • Provide technical expertise on Snowflake best practices, performance tuning, and cost optimization.

  • Data Management and Governance:
  • Establish and enforce data governance policies and procedures within Snowflake environments.
  • Implement data quality checks and validation processes to ensure data accuracy and reliability.
  • Develop and maintain data documentation and metadata management practices.
  • Provide guidance on data security and compliance requirements within Snowflake.

  • Solution Development and Innovation:
  • Develop and implement innovative data solutions that leverage the full capabilities of Snowflake.
  • Stay up-to-date on the latest Snowflake features and advancements.
  • Contribute to the development of internal data management offerings and best practices.
  • Identify and evaluate emerging data technologies and trends.

  • Collaboration and Communication:
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including data scientists, analysts, and business stakeholders.  
  • Effectively communicate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Deliver clear and concise presentations and reports to clients and internal stakeholders.
  • Work with project managers to keep projects on time, and within budget.

Competencies we are looking for:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent experience
  • SnowPro Core Certification required
  • SnowPro Advanced: Data Engineering Certification preferred
  • 10+ years of experience in designing and implementing cloud-based data architectures, with a focus on data warehousing
  • 4+ years of experience in data-focused consulting or professional services, with a track record of delivering successful client solutions
  • Proficiency in Snowflake data warehousing platform, including advanced data modeling, performance optimization, security configurations, Snowpipe, and data sharing
  • Proven ability to develop and manage ETL/ELT processes and data pipelines for seamless data integration into Snowflake, using tools such as Airflow, DBT, or similar technologies
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for conveying complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders and team members
  • A consulting mindset with the ability to understand client requirements, build relationships, and deliver tailored solutions that meet their specific needs
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to adapt to evolving technologies and methodologies in the dynamic data architecture landscape
  • Collaborative spirit and the ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams
  • Effective time management and organizational skills
  • Leadership qualities to guide and inspire team members and stakeholders in achieving goals
  • Commitment to ongoing learning and staying updated on the latest trends and advancements in data architecture and Snowflake
  • Meticulous attention to detail when designing data models and ensuring data quality and accuracy
