BlackCloak’s mission is to protect corporate executives and high-profile individuals in their personal lives, mitigating risks to their families, companies, reputation, and finances. We defend our clients’ digital lives from hackers, privacy leaks, and identity theft. If you are passionate about helping to protect others, then keep reading - this may be your next great opportunity.
We're looking for our first Principal Data Engineer to design, build, and own our data ecosystem from the ground up. This is a unique opportunity to lay the foundation for our entire data strategy and directly influence how we use data to drive decisions across the company and build data-driven product capabilities. You'll be a hands-on developer and a strategic partner, collaborating with leadership and engineering teams to turn raw data into a valuable asset.
This role reports directly to the VP of Engineering.
What you will do
- Architect the Data Ecosystem: Design and build our complete data stack, including robust data pipelines, a centralized data warehouse, and a suite of data exploration tools.
- Lead Vendor Selection: Research, evaluate, and select key vendors and technologies for our data platform, making critical decisions that will impact our long-term strategy.
- Deploy and Own: Take end-to-end ownership of the deployment, maintenance, and ongoing operations of all key data ecosystem components.
- Hands-On Development: Be a player-coach, serving as the primary developer during the early phases of this project.
- Strategic Collaboration: Partner with the VP of Product Management, CISO, and VP of Engineering to define our data vision and roadmap.
- Identify and Unblock: Work closely with engineering feature teams to understand their data needs, identify blockers, and build solutions that enable them to succeed.
What you need to be successful
- Experience: We're targeting someone with 8-10+ years of hands-on experience in data engineering, with a proven track record of architecting and building scalable data platforms.
- Leadership and Influence: A vocal champion for the value of data who can build strong relationships of influence across the organization, particularly with our engineering teams, to ensure correct data patterns are identified and enforced.
- Deep Technical Expertise: Extensive experience in modern data warehousing, ETL/ELT pipelines, data modeling, data governance, security, analytics and reporting.
- Autonomy: The ability and confidence to operate as a "team of one" during the early stages of the company's data journey, with the vision to grow and mentor a team in the future.
