Our Ways of Working

Babylist thrives as a remote-first company, with HQ team members located across the U.S. and Canada. We meet in person twice a year—once as a company and once by department to strengthen the relationships that power our work. We show up consistently, stay purpose-driven, and achieve results —together, from anywhere.

What the Role Is

Babylist is hiring a senior in-house counsel to help us navigate the legal opportunities and risks that come with scale. Reporting to the General Counsel, you'll be a strategic partner to our teams building our eCommerce site and Media business, as well as a key legal advisor to our Supply Chain teams. You will:

  • Provide practical, business-forward counseling on product, commercial, and regulatory issues across a fast-moving environment
  • Create the legal process for the tech product lifecycle (PRDs, experiments, launch reviews) to embed privacy-by-design and consumer-protection best practices
  • Lead and negotiate a wide range of commercial agreements, including IOs, data-sharing, measurement, and platform terms; advise on FTC Endorsement Guides, claims substantiation, testimonials/UGC, and promotional rules
  • Build and mature legal systems, processes, and templates that improve speed and consistency (e.g., playbooks, self-serve tools, and CLM workflows)
  • Create and maintain scalable templates (MSAs, DPAs), clause libraries, and escalation matrices
  • Manage outside counsel efficiently and develop fit-for-purpose engagement strategies
  • Deliver training for GTM, Product, and Ops; drive policy updates and legal comms to the business

Who You Are

  • 12+ years of overall professional working experience, with at least 3 years at a reputable law firm and 5+ years in-house at a high growth technology company directly advising senior leadership clients on complex commercial, business, and transactional matters
  • Bachelor’s degree and Juris Doctorate from an ABA accredited law school (or foreign equivalent) with membership in good standing in a U.S. State Bar.
  • Demonstrated expertise in U.S. privacy laws (e.g., CCPA/CPRA, GDPR familiarity) and experience counseling on adtech, data use, and measurement in media/marketing contexts
  • Depth in several of: advertising & marketing law (including endorsements, claims, and promotions), commercial contracting, and data privacy, plus the judgment to spot issues across adjacent areas
  • Strong business acumen; you translate legal risk into clear, actionable options aligned with company objectives
  • Exceptional communicator and client manager; equally fluent in technical and business contexts; comfortable engaging everyone from senior executives to engineers across varying stakeholder maturity
  • Excellent problem-solving and interpersonal skills; you build trust quickly across functions
  • Proven ability to lead initiatives, influence without authority, and collaborate in a high-growth environment

How You Will Make An Impact

  • Develop and implement the company's overall legal strategy, aligning it with our business objectives and growth plans. Identify potential legal risks and provide proactive guidance to mitigate them effectively
  • Provide legal partnership, guidance, and proactive risk reduction strategies to our teams. This includes providing legal guidance to address transformational and day to day business matters such as commercial contracts, privacy, regulatory analysis, etc
  • Develop form contracts for use by various business units, and manage the ongoing review, drafting and negotiation of a wide variety of contracts, including client agreements, vendor contracts, and partnerships/influencer agreements. Ensure contracts are aligned with the company's goals and protect its legal and financial interests

Why You Will Love Working At Babylist

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
