Diamond Foundry Inc. is solving the thermal limitation at the foundation of today's most exciting tech industries -- AI & cloud compute, electric-car power electronics, and 5G/6G wireless. We have managed to produce the world's first single-crystal diamond wafers and are now on a mission to put a diamond behind every chip. We are the rare unicorn that has grown fast and profitably. We received $515m in funding and are executing a multi-$B expansion plan for one of the greenest forms of tech manufacturing: converting greenhouse gas into diamond wafers using zero-emission energy.

We seek an experienced and hands-on engineer to design, develop, and optimize automation systems for handling, processing, and characterizing diamonds in our foundry. This role will focus on integrating robotic material-handling systems, motion control, and computer vision technologies. The ideal candidate will bring expertise across robotics, automation, and industrial systems design, with a strong foundation in software, electrical, and mechanical engineering.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, document, and enhance robotic and automated industrial machines.
  • Collaborate with automation vendors for the outsourced development of complex robotic systems and components.
  • Wire, program, troubleshoot, and integrate third-party systems, including robotic arms, lasers, small parts handling systems, and vision-based inspection systems.
  • Partner with manufacturing engineers, process engineers, and technicians to create innovative automation solutions that improve production efficiency, reduce human error, and ensure the reliability of semiconductor equipment.
  • Generate clear, detailed documentation of equipment designs, integration processes, and troubleshooting procedures.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Robotics, or a related engineering discipline with 10 years of hands-on experience in machine design.
  • In-depth experience with robotics, micron-level tolerance optimization, motion control, and vision systems.
  • Expertise in computer vision technologies, including cameras, image processing, and vision system integration for robotics applications.
  • Proficiency in GD&T, 3D/2D CAD (SolidWorks), EDA/ECAD tools (e.g., KiCAD, DipTrace), and Python.
  • Ability to generate and modify controls for robotic and automation systems.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
