Summary:
Age of Learning is seeking a full-time Principal Artist to add to our in-house development team. In this role, you will be responsible for creating and assembling world-class art assets for educational games and experiences. As a Principal Artist, you’ll provide creative leadership by setting the tone for other artists and leading by example. The work includes a heavy emphasis on illustration, character, prop, and environment design, visual development, storyboarding, and asset preparation. Extensive experience creating art for use in games and/or interactive experiences is a must for this role. Ability to animate characters or motion graphics a huge plus.

The position requires a keen eye and hand, a mastery of color theory, and a high attention to detail, resulting in vibrant, visually-rich experiences that keep kids coming back.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the creation of art for games and experiences by example
  • Design appealing characters, props, and environments that are age- and product-appropriate, with an eye toward holistic look/feel
  • Create interactive and game assets using Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and Rive
  • Work with game designers and curriculum specialists to develop a visual style and concepts for games, activities, and experiences
  • Work with development teams to meet the needs of various teams’ delivery goals
  • Develop and deliver best-in-class, implementation-ready game art assets

Required Qualifications:

  • 5+ years experience as an artist working on interactive products in a games or interactive production environment, either in-house or on a contract basis
  • Expert knowledge of Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator
  • Expert ability to create game-ready art that falls within technical guidelines
  • Advanced knowledge of color theory and visual development, including storyboarding
  • Desire to continually sharpen artistic abilities and broaden skillset
  • Good communication skills
  • Strong traditional drawing and rendering abilities
  • Excellent time-management skills and the ability to meet deadlines under pressure
  • A passion for education and games

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Arts in Illustration, Animation, Fine Arts, Visual Communication, or related field
  • Ability to optimize art for Unity
  • Experience creating 3D art assets and/or animation a huge plus
  • Some knowledge of 2D interactive animation tools like Rive, Spine, and/or Lottie
  • Understanding of basic animation principles 
  • Applied understanding of the intersection of art and tech

Total Compensation:
The estimated salary range for a new hire in this position is $100,000 USD to $140,000 USD. Salary may vary depending on job-related factors, including knowledge, skills, experience, and location.
