Blue Matter is a rapidly growing management consultancy focused in the biopharmaceutical industry.  We partner with our clients to help them achieve commercial success across the lifecycle of their products, portfolios, and organizations. Our project types include providing decision support through insights and analytics for new product planning, launch strategy, portfolio / disease area strategy, and organizational strategy / change management. Most of our work is in specialty therapeutics, with oncology and rare diseases a specific area of expertise. 

Blue Matter Insights (BMI) is our specialized insights CoE, uniquely combining sophisticated quantitative analytics with strategic pharmaceutical consulting. BMI consultants work side-by-side with strategy team members on high-stakes client engagements. Our lean, entrepreneurial structure accelerates your growth: high performers quickly progress from executing analyses to leading workstreams to managing client relationships. You'll gain exposure to diverse therapeutic areas and challenging problems (launch forecasting, portfolio optimization, omnichannel strategy) while building expertise across proprietary technology platforms and advanced analytical methods. Working directly with senior leaders invested in your development, you'll tackle challenging problems and help build new capabilities that become part of BMI's competitive edge.

As a Principal, you will work across Blue Matter as a deep functional expert, playing a key role in solving complex client needs with analytical approaches and innovative solutions.  

Primary Responsibilities

Business Development & Client Acquisition

  • Drive business development and revenue generation by identifying, pursuing, and winning new client relationships with accountability for achieving significant sales targets 
  • Own and expand strategic client accounts, serving as executive sponsor and trusted advisor to build long-term relationships that enhance BMI's brand and market position
  • Lead creation of compelling proposals, RFPs, and capability presentations that differentiate BMI's integrated analytics and technology offerings
  • Partner with firm leadership to define and execute BMI's go-to-market strategy, contributing to practice growth and market share expansion

Domain Expertise & Thought Leadership

  • Serve as recognized industry expert with comprehensive and authoritative knowledge in commercial analytics, demonstrated through client eminence, speaking engagements, publications, and thought leadership
  • Solve complex client business issues by leveraging deep expertise across commercial workstreams including forecasting (early-stage through post-launch), field engagement analytics, primary market research, pricing strategy, market access analytics, data architecture/management, and commercial operations
  • Develop and refine BMI's proprietary methodologies, tools, and frameworks that create competitive advantage and drive superior client outcomes
  • Contribute to BMI's thought leadership agenda through white papers, industry presentations, and external visibility that establishes the firm's market leadership

Delivery Excellence & Client Engagement

  • Oversee end-to-end engagement lifecycle including selling, contracting, scoping, kickoff, delivery, and post-project follow-up to ensure exceptional client value
  • Provide intellectual leadership and strategic direction to project teams, guiding solution design and ensuring analytical rigor throughout delivery
  • Lead client workshops, executive steering committees, and strategic planning sessions to scope complex initiatives and align stakeholders on objectives
  • Ensure seamless collaboration between BMI analytics teams, Blue Matter strategy consultants, and technology platforms to deliver integrated solutions

Team Development & Internal Leadership

  • Build, lead, and inspire high-performing teams of professionals across multiple levels and locations, fostering culture of excellence, innovation, and collaboration
  • Act as role model and mentor to internal team, developing next generation of leaders through coaching, training, and career guidance
  • Serve as integral member of BMI leadership team, driving innovation in analytical approaches, technology platforms, and service delivery models
  • Represent BMI in firm-wide initiatives, cross-practice collaboration, and strategic partnerships

  • Senior-level solution selling expertise with ability to identify client pain points and develop compelling value propositions
  • Exceptional communication skills with executive presence and ability to influence C-suite stakeholders

Domain Expertise & Strategic Thinking

  • Deep expertise in pharmaceutical commercial analytics including forecasting, market research, pricing strategy, market access, field operations, and commercial modeling
  • Understanding of pharmaceutical commercialization lifecycle from early development through post-launch optimization
  • Strong strategic and business acumen with ability to frame complex business issues and design innovative solutions
  • Experience across therapeutic areas with preference for expertise in specialty therapeutics

Leadership & Management

  • Extensive experience leading and developing large teams (20+ people) across multiple geographies and levels
  • Proven ability to recruit, retain, and develop top talent, with track record of building high-performing organizations
  • Ability to inspire and motivate diverse teams while fostering collaborative, innovative work environment

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree (PhD, MD, MBA, or MS) from leading institution in quantitative field, life sciences, or business
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in life sciences consulting, pharmaceutical industry, or healthcare analytics with clear evidence of increasing responsibility and leadership
  • Prior experience as partner, principal, or senior leader at consulting firm or pharmaceutical company
  • Track record of thought leadership through publications, speaking engagements, or industry recognition
  • Established network within pharmaceutical and biotech industry

Compensation: Base salary range: $275,000 - $325,000 per year. Generous incentive compensation structure.
