Pricing Analyst

The Pricing Analyst plays a critical role within the Pricing team, supporting the development and execution of data-driven pricing solutions that align client value, competitiveness, and firm profitability. The ideal candidate has exceptional Excel skills, a strong aptitude for numbers, sound judgment, excellent communication, and the ability to juggle multiple deliverables.

The Pricing Analyst will serve as a front-line resource for pricing inquiries, providing timely analysis, guidance, and approvals where appropriate, and escalating more complex matters to senior team members. While the role will initially focus on supporting Senior Pricing Analysts and the Pricing Manager, it is expected to evolve into a partner-facing position, with increasing responsibility for crafting Alternative Fee Arrangements (AFAs) and pricing recommendations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the development of pricing strategies, rate analyses, and Alternative Fee Arrangements (AFAs) across practices and clients.
  • Analyze historical billing, realization, utilization, and matter performance data to inform pricing and profitability recommendations.
  • Build, maintain, and refine Excel-based models to evaluate pricing scenarios, assumptions, and risk.
  • Apply sound judgment to interpret data and identify trends, issues, and opportunities relevant to pricing decisions.
  • Assist in preparing pricing analyses and recommendations for new matters, renewals, and strategic client initiatives.
  • Serve on the front lines of the Pricing inbox, responding to ad hoc pricing questions, rate requests, and approval inquiries from attorneys and business professionals.
  • Provide timely, accurate guidance within established pricing frameworks and approval thresholds, escalating matters requiring deeper analysis or policy interpretation to Senior Pricing Analysts or the Pricing Manager.
  • Ensure consistent application of pricing principles and standards across all pricing responses and recommendations.
  • Own intake and tracking of RFPs, pricing requests, and significant pricing initiatives, ensuring clear visibility into scope, timelines, ownership, and progress across the Pricing team.
  • Leverage understanding of the law-firm time and billing lifecycle, including time entry, billing, collections, write-ups, write-downs, and write-offs, to support pricing solutions.
  • Partner with Finance, Billing, and LPM teams to validate data and assumptions.
  • Maintain high standards of accuracy, consistency, and documentation in all analyses.
  • Prepare clear, concise written analyses and summaries for internal stakeholders.
  • Communicate financial concepts in a practical, business-focused manner tailored to attorneys and pricing leadership.
  • Participate in discussions with partners and senior stakeholders.
  • Develop the capability to independently support partner conversations related to pricing and AFAs, with senior guidance as needed.

Skills & Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Business, Accounting, Analytics, or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Advanced Excel proficiency, including financial modeling and complex analytical work.
  • Strong quantitative aptitude with exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple, time-sensitive requests in a deadline-driven environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; able to articulate complex concepts simply.
  • Strong judgment, discretion, intellectual curiosity, and willingness to learn.

Preferred

  • Experience in a law-firm or professional services environment, particularly in billing, finance, pricing, or practice management.
  • Law-firm experience or working knowledge of the end-to-end lifecycle of time in a law firm and its impact on pricing and realization is a strong plus.
  • Background as a high-performing biller, analyst, or legal professional seeking to transition into a strategic pricing role.
  • Exposure to pricing strategy, rate approvals, or Alternative Fee Arrangement development.

Career Development

This role offers meaningful exposure to firm leadership, client pricing strategy, and advanced pricing methodologies. The Pricing Analyst will gain increasing responsibility and visibility, with a clear opportunity to expand partner-facing engagement and ownership of pricing matters over time.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
