This role combines deep technical expertise with leadership responsibilities, ensuring our models meet global interconnection and transmission study requirements. You will act as both a hands-on modeling expert and a program manager, bridging the gap between modeling, software development, and customer-facing activities.

Major Job Responsibilities:

Model Development & Validation

  • Lead the design, development, and maintenance of dynamic models (e.g., PSCAD, PSS®E, EMT-type) for interconnection and grid studies
  • Ensure all models comply with NERC, ISO, RTO, and international grid code requirements
  • Provide clear technical specifications and executable prototypes to guide new HybridOS feature development

Consultant & Partner Management

  • Coordinate with global modeling consultants, for both US and non-U.S. markets
  • Review and validate third-party deliverables to ensure accuracy, quality, and compliance with regulatory standards

Customer & Project Engagement

  • Represent HybridOS modeling capabilities in customer and stakeholder discussions
  • Address technical modeling inquiries during project execution and proposal phases
  • Support project-specific modeling needs by adapting or developing models as required

Internal Collaboration & Thought Leadership

  • Work closely with software engineering teams to integrate modeling requirements into product development
  • Contribute to QA/QC processes for models and modeling workflows
  • Participate in industry forums and technical committees to influence and stay ahead of modeling standards and trends

Position Requirements:

  • Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, or related field
  • 5+ years of professional experience in power system modeling and analysis
  • Proficiency with PSCAD, PSS®E, or comparable simulation platforms
  • Strong knowledge of NERC, ISO/RTO interconnection and modeling requirements
  • Experience managing external consultants and/or cross-functional technical teams
  • Ability to translate modeling outcomes into software specifications and product features
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Preferred Qualifications:
    • Experience with distributed energy resources (DERs), hybrid plants, or inverter-based resources
    • Familiarity with international grid codes (e.g., Australia, Germany, Europe)
    • Understanding of Agile or modern software development workflows
    • Exposure to both regulated and deregulated electricity markets.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
