General Description:
We are looking for an engineer to plan and perform testing and integration of electronic circuits and equipment, including medium to high-voltage (e.g. > 600V) switching amplifiers and circuits. An ideal candidate will thrive working with hardware in a hands-on role and will have previous experience with power electronics (e.g. linear power supplies, switching power supplies, transducer drivers, class-D audio amplifiers, power converters, or switch drivers) as well as analog, logic and radio frequency circuits. Testing will mainly include circuits based on high-voltage high frequency SiC or GaN devices, but an opportunity also exists to work with microwave and mmW circuits and sub-systems.

Essential Duties:
Contribute technical expertise in the area of power electronics design, implementation, and test.
Work within diverse teams, taking primary responsibility for testing and integration of high-performance custom power electronics components and subsystems with switching frequencies up to 1 MHz or more. Examples are linear power supplies, switching power supplies, transducer drivers, class-D amplifiers, power converters, switch drivers, etc.
Work with lead designers to develop and execute test plans; integrate and re-work experimental circuits; operate prototype equipment and test equipment; record, organize, and document test data; and identify and work with management to procure/maintain needed equipment and tools.

Required Skills:
At least 1 year of experience testing and integrating power, control, or analog electronics is required.  Experience wiring, constructing, fabricating, assembling, or repairing physical items is required. Experience with SiC or GaN devices is desired. Experience with voltages above 1 kV is a plus. Experience with printed circuit board layout and circuit simulation (e.g. Altium, SPICE) is a plus.
Knowledge of switch-mode power electronics circuits, electronic test equipment and techniques, digital logic, and safety. Knowledge of analog, signal conditioning, and radio frequency circuits. Working knowledge of wiring and interconnects is desired. Knowledge of magnetic component design and construction (e.g. transformers) is a plus.
Electrical/Electronics fabrication (prepare wiring harnesses, solder, etc.), computer programming (e.g. Matlab, Python, C/C++, LabView, etc.), and debugging electrical circuits are required. Basic lab test equipment (e.g. Oscilloscope, power supply, signal generator/analyzer, network analyzer, impedance analyzer, etc.).
Applicant must be able to interact professionally with program managers, co-workers, customers, and operate complex electronic equipment.
Ability to work well in a team and independently
Must be willing to travel and work in a team of highly skilled engineers on complex projects, and willingness to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.

Required Education:
B.S. or M.S. degree in electrical engineering

Physical Requirements:
Ability to follow protocols to safely operate hazardous equipment.
Ability to lift 50 lbs and access equipment both on the floor and on a ladder.

Special Requirements:
U.S. Citizenship is required.
Ability to obtain a security clearance is required.

Compensation:
The base salary range for this full-time position is $99,705 - $124,683 + bonus + benefits.
Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
