At Counterpart Health, we are transforming healthcare and improving patient care with our innovative primary care tool, Counterpart Assistant. By supporting Primary Care Physicians (PCPs), we are able to deliver improved outcomes to our patients at a lower cost through early diagnosis and longitudinal care management of chronic conditions.

The Pod Engineering Lead (PEL) is a key engineering role in our empowered Pod model of software product development. You will be an important "leg of the stool," closely collaborating with Product Management, Design, Data Science, and other cross-functional leads. You will work in a shift-left approach, bringing engineering considerations and insights as early into the development process as possible. This role is ideal for an experienced engineer with strong product sense and business acumen.

As a Pod Engineering Lead, you will:

  • Be a peer and primary point of contact for your Pod PM and Designer (as well as other cross-functional leads)
  • Bring your deep technical and system understanding to help ideate and design the next big product idea or feature
  • Complete the last mile and be able to get 80-90% direction and finalize the last 10-20% autonomously from your own understanding of the business context.  Strong bias against saying “let me ask the PM” for every detail
  • Combine your technical skills and product sense to simplify the complexities of healthcare and build delightful experiences for physicians to use
  • Find pragmatic solutions that balance engineering challenges with product demands

Success in this role looks like:

  • You can readily engage in technical discussions at multiple levels. You thrive in technical design discussions with fellow engineers as well as in quarterly product review sessions with business stakeholders.
  • You are able to collaborate and take ambiguous product requirements and translate them into practical technical designs and implementations for yourself or other engineers on the team to execute.
  • You are a subject matter expert in our systems. You actively help reinforce existing design patterns to manage system complexity and know where/how to build a rapid prototype when necessary.

You should get in touch if:

  • You have 8+ years of experience with functional or imperative programming languages such as Python, Ruby, Go, Java, or C
  • You have full-stack experience designing and building complex (often distributed) end-to-end solutions/systems
  • You are comfortable working across different technical systems and concerns
  • You are an excellent communicator verbally and in writing. You enjoy creating easy-to-read and understandable technical design documents
  • You demonstrate the ability to influence at all levels, collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, and drive technical decision-making.

Benefits Overview

Additionally, we offer a performance-based bonus program, 401k matching, and regular compensation reviews to recognize and reward exceptional contributions.

To support this, we offer initiatives such as No-Meeting Fridays, monthly company holidays, access to mental health resources, and a generous flexible time-off policy. Additionally, we embrace a remote-first culture that supports collaboration and flexibility, allowing our team members to thrive from any location.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
