Metronome is the leading usage-based billing platform built for modern software companies. With Metronome, companies can launch products faster, offer any pricing model, and streamline finance workflows without writing code.
Our platform computes millions of invoices per billing period and is scaling rapidly to accommodate new customers, saving them hours of development time and manual invoicing and enabling them to use consumption data to better serve their customers. Our customers love our product and approach, and we’re humbled to work with amazing companies like OpenAI, Databricks, NVIDIA, Confluent, and Anthropic.
You'll be joining an experienced team that includes founders who have successfully built and sold startups before. Our founders and employees also have direct experience building and scaling teams through massive growth at companies like Dropbox, Clever, and New Relic. On the back of this experience and our success-to-date, we’ve raised over $128M from leading investors including NEA, Andreessen Horowitz, General Catalyst, Elad Gil, and Workday Ventures. We’re also proud to have founders and executives of companies like Segment, Plaid, Looker, Gitlab, Confluent, HashiCorp, and Snowflake, as investors who have experienced the pain we're solving firsthand.
Metronome is reimagining the core systems that will define the future of our platform. We’re looking for a senior engineering leader to tackle some of the most technically challenging and strategically important problems in our domain. You will be leading a team of highly tenured and exceptional engineers through a multi-quarter initiative that will transform our platform’s capabilities, accelerate innovation, and establish a durable technical advantage for Metronome. As the leader of this group, you’ll own both short-term delivery milestones and the long-term vision for how this platform evolves to meet customer and business needs.
What You'll Do- Set organizational and technical direction: Shape the roadmap and vision for your team in collaboration with infrastructure, data, and product leadership.
- Advocate for the right long-term system investments: Lead cross-cutting initiatives that enable scale, improve margins, and raise the bar for reliability and testing standards.
- Drive complex cross-team execution: Bring clarity to sequencing, align priorities across stakeholders, and ensure timely, high-quality delivery—making deliberate tradeoffs to balance near-term customer value with long-term platform foundations.
- Manage and grow leaders: Lead senior engineers and emerging managers. Provide career development, performance feedback, and coaching to build the next generation of technical and organizational leaders.
- Recruit and retain top talent: Scale the team by hiring exceptional engineers and managers. Foster a high-trust, high-performance culture that values innovation, collaboration, and operational excellence.
In your first six months, you will have:
- Driven clarity and momentum on our next-generation compute initiative, ensuring the team delivers measurable progress toward platform scalability and reliability.
- Built strong trust and alignment with cross-functional partners in product, data, and infrastructure, enabling faster decision-making and clearer tradeoffs.
- Delivered incremental value to customers while laying the foundation for long-term architectural improvements.
Within 12–18 months, you will have:
- Established the platform as a clear differentiator for Metronome—improving cost efficiency, unlocking new product capabilities, and raising the bar for reliability.
- Successfully led the organization through complex technical tradeoffs and multi-quarter sequencing, ensuring both near-term delivery and long-term durability.
- Developed and promoted the next generation of leaders, ensuring the team scales sustainably with Metronome’s growth.
- 6+ years of engineering management experience: Including managing managers or senior/staff ICs and scaling teams through periods of growth and complexity.
- 8+ years of technical experience: You’ve built and operated distributed systems or platforms at scale and understand platform architecture and reliability deeply.
- Proven leadership skills: You’ve led teams through ambiguity, made long-term technical bets, and know how to align execution with business goals.
- Strong organizational and communication skills: You navigate complex stakeholder needs, drive clarity across teams and functions, and communicate tradeoffs to executives.
- Commitment to inclusivity: You build diverse, inclusive teams and lead with empathy, candor, and authenticity.
