Come Dream with Us at Hatch

There’s nothing like a great night’s sleep—the cozy, wrapped-up-in-a-heavy-blanket kind of sleep. The fire-crackling, curtains-drawn, DO NOT DISTURB kind of sleep. You know, the good stuff.

But here’s the thing: while 85% of people agree sleep is the key to their well-being, more than half are unsatisfied with their own. Whether it’s stress, interruptions, work, or little ones waking in the night, so many people need help getting truly restorative rest.

That’s where we come in. At Hatch, we’re on a mission to help people build better sleep habits—so they can feel more focused, energized, and present in their lives. We’ve designed best-in-class smart sleep devices, paired with science-backed sleep content, to help people unwind nightly, sleep deeply, and wake gently. More than 5 million sleepers of all ages have made space for rest with Hatch, with our baby products in 1 in 3 nurseries and our adult product, Restore, taking over nightstands (and TikTok) worldwide.

The Role: Mobile Architect (Adult Pillar)

Our Mobile Engineering team is growing, and we’re looking for a hands-on Mobile Architect to join us in building beautiful, functional features that help people get their best sleep. In this role, you’ll lead architectural decisions, collaborate cross-functionally, and bring a human touch to the technical craft. You’ll help bring new smart hardware and software products to life, all while keeping quality and scalability at the heart of everything you build.

You’ll work alongside a sharp, systems-focused team that loves clean code, shared standards, and dreaming up new ways to improve the user experience. If you’re a builder at heart who loves balancing architecture with product impact—and you’re always up for learning something new—you’ll add so much to our team.

🛠️ This is a contract-to-hire role.

We’ll begin with a 4-week, paid contract (10 hrs/week), where you’ll work on real tickets and partner cross-functionally. It’s a chance for us to see your technical strengths and how you might add to our team’s culture, perspective, and ways of working—as we explore the path to full-time together.

What You’ll Do

📆 Within 3 Months:

  • Step in as the primary architectural lead for the Adult Pillar
  • Align your work with our mobile architectural north star, helping shape high-quality, scalable code
  • Get involved early in project planning—partnering across teams to ensure smooth execution

🚀 Within 6 Months:

  • Balance architectural improvements with business priorities—knowing when “good enough” gets us moving
  • Ensure our iOS and Android apps evolve in tandem with shared goals
  • Contribute to full-stack thinking: from backend services to dynamic content, analytics, firmware, and more
  • Be a champion for consistency, quality, and collaboration across the mobile team

After 1 Year:

  • Help shape Hatch’s mobile platform for long-term success, bringing big-picture clarity and pragmatic solutions
  • Share insights, mentor engineers, and advocate for thoughtful architectural choices across the Adult, Kids, and Stability pillars
  • Represent your work in forums and cross-functional check-ins with pride and purpose

What You’ll Bring

  • Strong leadership and coding chops—comfortable breaking down big projects and guiding smooth launches
  • A pragmatic, product-focused mindset—you know when to build the ideal solution and when to ship incremental wins
  • A desire to stay close to our users through testing, reviews, and feedback
  • Proficiency in iOS/Swift and/or Kotlin/Android (bonus points if you love both!)
  • Experience with RESTful APIs, JSON, cloud services (AWS, GCP), and async workflows
  • A deep appreciation for modularization and clean architecture
  • A Bachelor’s in Computer Science or equivalent experience
  • Bonus: Familiarity with CI/CD tools like Fastlane, GitHub Actions, and light scripting (Ruby, Python, or Shell)

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
