MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:
1. BS Pharmacy or PharmD required
2. Current Pharmacy Licensure
3. This position may require additional certification in support of the responsibilities of the position, which will be provided by WVUHS Information Technology. Certification completion will be required within four months of formal certification training completion.
EXPERIENCE:
1. Minimum two (2) years’ clinical experience, required.
2. Internal employees must meet all mandatory competencies in current position in order to qualify for promotion within IT.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
EXPERIENCE:
1. Hospital pharmacy experience preferred.
2. Minimum two (2) years’ experience working with Clinical IT applications, including design, testing, and troubleshooting problems and/or training, preferred.
3. Familiarity of application to be supported preferred.
CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The statements described here are intended to describe the general nature of work being performed by people assigned to this position. They are not intended to be constructed as an all-inclusive list of all responsibilities and duties. Other duties may be assigned.
1. Maintains an understanding of customer operations. Utilizes clinical and operational expertise to optimize design and use of information systems. Maintains presence in the customer department(s) supported on a regularly scheduled basis. Utilizes knowledge of operations/work flow to help ensure optimal system design. Utilizes knowledge of operations/ work flow to proactively suggest/implement changes to systems or to suggest changes as to how customers utilize systems in support of work flow, patient safety, confidentiality, etc.
2. Maintains a thorough understanding of supported applications, related interfaces and ongoing upgrades and enhancements. Demonstrates knowledge of upgrade and application changes. Defines and designs in conjunction with user departments, applications to meet on going specific needs. The definition process includes coding of tables, profiles, dictionaries, screens, report format tables, and adhoc reports. Evaluates requests for department/system modifications and enhancements; includes making modifications and thoroughly testing before moving to production. Ensures quality and integrity of data. Works with customers to ensure effective and efficient use of supported applications. Responsible for the development and/or maintenance of thorough system related documentation.
3. Provides assistance in problem identification and resolution of daily production problems in a timely manner. Analyzes production problems, takes appropriate correction action, and follows up on problems to ensure they have been resolved. Analyzes, reviews, and alters tables, profiles, dictionaries, screens, report format tables, or databases to increase operating efficiency or adapt to new requirements. Provides documentation (ServiceWise) to his/her manager on production problems and the corrective action taken. Replaces, deletes, or modifies system build to correct errors. Notifies appropriate contact person(s) concerning databases and related interfaces. Accepts on-call responsibilities and responds with action, either by phone call or on-site as defined by Departmental Policy.
4. Investigates vendor application packages and participates in system selections. Utilizes various industry resources (journals, internet, conferences, user groups, etc.) to stay current on vendor offerings and features/functions that might meet the needs of the customers/organization. Assists customers with identifying functional requirements for the RFP/RFI. Assists in the development of the RFP/RFI. Assists in the evaluation of vendor RFP/RFI responses. Attends and evaluates vendor demonstrations. Participates in reference calls and the evaluation of the information provided. Participates in site visits as appropriate.
5. Implements software solutions to support customer/organizational requirements. Uses knowledge of customer operations and applications to investigate, recommend, and implement software solutions to address operational requirements. This includes implementation of in-house developed modifications to existing software, vendor upgrades/maintenance releases to existing software, and/or implementation of new software solutions. Determines if design of application, enhancements, and/or modifications fulfills current needs, as well as provides sufficient flexibility for future needs. Tests all applications changes to ensure accuracy and quality of change. Installs applications/modifications/enhancements with minimal disruption to users. Develops or modifies documentation and/or training materials for vendor software or site-specific changes.
6. Participates in projects/requests assigned by management: Completes assigned tasks within agreed upon time frames. Identifies any issues, barriers, or risks and brings them to management’s attention. Participates in project team meetings. Provides appropriate status to management when requested
7. Manages projects assigned by manager based on written standards and procedures. Functions as the project manager/leader when assigned by management. Duties include project time management, task and personnel coordination and scope management. Follows hospital’s project management methodology. Tracks issues/barriers to the project and ensures resolution in a timely manner. Coordinates and facilitates project meetings. Responsible for project documentation (i.e. agendas, minutes, etc.) Reviews assigned tasks daily, updates project management database and informs management of any identified issues or barriers. Manages expectations and engages management to review/resolve any potential changes to project scope, expected deliverables, etc. Participates in post implementation review of projects.
8. Provides training / knowledge transfer. Works closely with the Informatics Pharmacy Clinical Specialist in the Pharmacy, as well as with the clinical optimizers/trainers within IT/Informatics. Ensures knowledge transfer of new functionality as a result of enhancements, releases, modifications, etc.
9. Monitors current application performance and makes recommendations to manager. Reviews daily performance issues and advises appropriate person(s). Advises the manager of all performance problems and makes recommendations for corrective actions.
10. Business recovery: Participates in the preparation and testing of the organization’s Disaster and Recovery Plan for their systems.
11. Completes all assignments as scheduled or as meets expectations.
12. This position may require travel to other West Virginia United Health System (WVUHS) facilities or affiliated sites to assist with implementations, training, and/or support.
13. Adheres to the established policies of the WVUHS as well as the policies of the entity or entities where the IT team member is assigned to work and/or employed.
14. Accepts on-call responsibilities and responds with action, either by phone call or on-site as defined by Department Policy.
15. Other duties as assigned.
