Position Overview: We’re looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join our Toolsmith team, where you'll build the internal tools and services that empower engineers, support teams, and customers to work faster, smarter, and more reliably with Aerospike products. In this role, you’ll design scalable, high-impact systems that automate infrastructure, streamline developer workflows, and improve performance observability across our stack. You'll collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, support, field teams, and IT to identify bottlenecks, eliminate toil, and deliver solutions that elevate the developer experience and enhance our ability to explore, test, and operate our products at scale.
Team Context: You will be joining the team behind internal tools like:
- GAIA: A cost-efficient, AWS-hosted environment for running Aerospike’s AGI platform on-demand using spot instances. Essential for support team workflows, with integrations into Salesforce and EKS automation.
- AGI: A log processing and dashboarding pipeline using Aerospike as a time-series store for Grafana.
- Aerolab: An open-source cluster orchestration tool used widely for customer issue replication and demos, with support for Docker, AWS, and GCP.
- AsFTP: A secure customer-facing log transfer portal integrated with Salesforce and designed for FIPS compliance.
- Asbench-UI: A graphical interface simplifying performance testing with Aerospike.
- Aerospike Workbench: "Prod" in a box, all the extra bits on top of aerolab that flesh out a complete laboratory environment.
- Aerospike Workloads: Named workloads that simulate real customer workloads
These tools directly impact productivity, cost optimization, and customer satisfaction. The role involves contributing to their ongoing development and supporting our roadmap.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, implement, test, and maintain internal tooling from ideation through production support.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, product support, and operational teams to gather requirements, define solutions, and ship impactful tools.
- Manage and enhance Linux-based and cloud-native infrastructure environments (primarily AWS, with some GCP), automating deployment, scaling, and monitoring using Bash, Docker, and configuration management tools.
- Support internal services such as GAIA, AGI, Aerolab, AsFTP, and Asbench-UI, ensuring high availability and disaster recovery readiness.
- Participate in an on-call rotation for internal tools, contributing to reliability and operational documentation.
Required Skills & Experience:
- Proficiency in Golang with experience building production-level tools.
- Understanding of CI/CD pipelines and modern DevOps practices.
- Strong Linux systems administration skills, with a deep understanding of networking fundamentals.
- Experience deploying and operating infrastructure on AWS and/or GCP.
- Familiarity with cloud SDKs in Go (AWS SDK for Go or GCP’s Go SDK).
- Container tooling expertise (Docker, Bash scripting).
- Excellent communication skills: ability to translate complex requirements into technical tasks and vice versa.
- Demonstrated ability to automate processes and remove manual bottlenecks.
Nice to Have:
- Experience with Ansible or other configuration management tools.
- Python scripting knowledge.
- Familiarity with Podman and container alternatives.
- Exposure to frontend development (especially internal Web UIs).
- Experience supporting or working within technical product support teams.
