About Metal

Metal is an AI-powered operating system for founders raising venture rounds. Our platform brings intelligence and efficiency to the core workflows involved in venture rounds — finding the right investors, mapping relationship intelligence to land introductions, and getting context-rich guidance on key questions around round strategy and collateral.

About the Role

The People Strategy Specialist (PSS) will be responsible for building and running Metal’s people operations function from the ground up. This is a high-impact role that combines recruiting, organizational design, HR operations, and culture building.

You’ll manage the entire recruitment lifecycle, maintain the applicant tracking system (ATS), collaborate with hiring managers to define roles, and drive the end-to-end candidate experience. Beyond hiring, you’ll own core people operations — including onboarding, contracts, payroll coordination, company policies, and engagement initiatives.

This is an ideal role for someone who’s passionate about shaping company culture, operational excellence, and people systems in a fast-scaling tech environment.

What You’ll Do
  • Recruitment & Hiring

    • Manage the ATS end-to-end: role setup, pipeline management, candidate tracking, and reporting.

    • Source and recruit candidates across multiple roles and functions.

    • Partner with hiring managers to create clear, compelling job descriptions and scorecards.

    • Run structured interview processes with a focus on quality, speed, and fairness.

    • Build a consistent candidate experience aligned with Metal’s values.

  • People Operations

    • Manage employment contracts, extensions, and onboarding documentation.

    • Coordinate payroll and benefits with our finance partners.

    • Maintain accurate employee records and compliance documentation.

    • Support the setup of HR systems, databases, and performance tracking tools.

    • Draft and maintain company policies (PTO, code of conduct, hybrid/remote guidelines, etc.).

  • Culture & Engagement

    • Organize company-wide events, offsites, and team-building activities.

    • Drive internal communication initiatives that build alignment and morale.

    • Gather and act on feedback to continuously improve employee engagement.

    • Partner with leadership on org design, performance cycles, and growth frameworks.

What We’re Looking For

Non-Negotiable Qualities

  • Organizational Mastery: Strong operational skills; thrives in structured, system-driven environments.

  • Ownership Mentality: Acts with autonomy and accountability across people ops and recruiting.

  • Comms Fluency: Clear written and spoken English; comfortable communicating with leadership and candidates.

  • Culture Fit: Humility, drive, and alignment with Metal’s mission and high-performance culture.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Experience managing recruitment processes or people operations (startup or tech environment preferred).

  • Proficiency with ATS tools (Lever, Ashby, Workable, or equivalent).

  • Strong understanding of hiring best practices and candidate experience design.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple roles and deadlines in parallel.

  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with global team members.

Preferred

  • Experience setting up or optimizing HR/recruiting systems and workflows.

  • Exposure to early-stage startups or remote-first companies.

  • Familiarity with employment contracts, payroll systems, and compliance basics.

  • Proven ability to organize company events or build engagement programs.

Why Join Metal?

You’ll be Metal’s first People Strategy Specialist, with the opportunity to architect the foundation of our people function — from systems to culture. This role offers direct collaboration with founders and department heads, visibility into company strategy, and a pathway toward leadership in People Operations or Chief of Staff domains.

You’ll play a key role in building not just a company, but the team that defines how the future of fundraising gets built.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
