The People Ops Lead will handle HR operations including onboarding, compliance, employee engagement, and support for managers. They will enhance HR systems and processes, ensuring a smooth employee experience.
Payabli’s mission is to enable any software company to become a payments company through its payment infrastructure and monetization platform. With Payabli, software companies can make payments a core part of their business model to drive revenue, enhance customer lifetime value, and boost enterprise value. Our co-founders are serial entrepreneurs who have built and scaled successful technology companies like RevoPay (acquired), Seamless.com (IPO), and ServiceTitan. We are backed by top venture capital investors Fika Ventures, Bling Capital, and TTV Capital.
Role Overview
The People Ops Lead is a hands-on HR generalist role with a wide scope—part builder, part operator, and part partner to leaders across the business. You’ll own the day-to-day of People Operations, while also helping to shape the programs and infrastructure that allow Payabli to scale. Think of it as the “glue” role—connecting onboarding, compliance, engagement, and performance into a seamless employee experience.
Responsibilities:
People Operations Backbone
- Own HR systems and workflows (Rippling as our HRIS/PEO, payroll, benefits, time off, compliance tracking).
- Ensure accurate employee data management, reporting, and documentation.
- Partner with Finance on payroll and benefits reconciliations.
Onboarding & Offboarding
- Drive a consistent, high-quality onboarding experience, from offer letters to orientation and beyond.
- Coordinate offboarding, ensuring compliance, documentation, and a respectful employee exit experience.
Employee Relations & Engagement
- Be a trusted first point of contact for employee questions and concerns.
- Support managers with employee relations cases and performance conversations.
- Help run engagement surveys, feedback loops, and cultural initiatives.
Compliance & Policies
- Maintain compliance across federal and state requirements (including carve-outs for states like CA, CO, and NY).
- Draft, update, and communicate policies in partnership with leadership.
- Track and document processes for SOC2 and other audit requests.
Performance, Development & Coaching
- Support ongoing performance cycles, goal setting, and calibration.
- Coach and advise leaders on managing teams, giving feedback, and navigating employee challenges.
- Partner with managers to embed strong people practices into daily operations.
- Assist in building lightweight training and development resources.
What We’re Looking For
- 4-6 years of People Ops / HR experience, ideally in a fast-growing startup environment.
- Proven ability to be both strategic and tactical—comfortable drafting policy one minute and running payroll audits the next.
- Strong understanding of compliance requirements across multiple states.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills with employees at all levels.
- Familiarity with Rippling (or similar HRIS/PEO), HR systems, and payroll/benefits tools.
- Bias toward action: you see a problem, you fix it.
What we can offer you
- Executive level responsibilities that grow with the company as we scale
- Competitive base salary and strong upside potential
- Stock options with the potential to unlock more equity as we grow
- Flexible PTO and paid parental leave
- Medical, dental, & vision insurance
- 401K, HSA, pre-tax savings programs
- Option to be fully remote or hybrid
- Monthly education fund to spend on anything that enhances your skills or gets you one step closer to your passion goals
