What We Are Looking For

As we scale, we need someone who can keep both our hiring engine and our employee experience running smoothly. This is a hybrid role: roughly half recruiting coordination and half People Operations. You will own interview logistics and the candidate experience on one side, and onboarding, benefits coordination, and core HR administration on the other.

You will be the connective tissue between candidates, new hires, and the teams they join. You will partner closely with recruiters, hiring managers, and the People team, and you will keep finding ways to make our processes faster and better using AI tools. This is an ideal first or second step into a generalist People career for someone who wants real ownership and exposure to both talent and people operations at a fast-growing company.

Key Responsibilities

Recruiting Coordination (~50%)

  • Own interview scheduling and logistics across multiple concurrent searches, spanning technical and non-technical roles

  • Act as the primary point of contact for candidates, communicating with a warm, informative tone that makes every touchpoint feel considered

  • Coordinate availability across candidates, interviewers, hiring managers, and leadership, including onsite and virtual interviews, panel prep, and debrief scheduling

  • Proactively flag scheduling conflicts and pipeline bottlenecks before they become delays

  • Maintain accurate candidate data and pipeline hygiene in Ashby

  • Support offer logistics and hand off new hires to People Ops

People Operations (~50%)

  • Own end-to-end onboarding for new hires, including pre-employment background checks, new hire paperwork, I-9 verification, travel arrangements, and any other pre-boarding coordination

  • Coordinate benefits administration, including new hire enrollment, answering employee benefits questions, and working with brokers and vendors

  • Support core HR operations such as maintaining employee records and HRIS data accuracy

  • Help prepare employment documentation, such as employment verifications, and status changes, etc in partnership with the People team

  • Support employee lifecycle processes including role changes, leaves, and offboarding logistics

  • Provide support and contribute to People programs and events such as team onsites, engagement efforts, and new hire welcomes

Across Both Areas

  • Identify opportunities to use AI tools to streamline scheduling, communication, onboarding, and reporting, and help build and implement those improvements

  • Suggest and drive improvements to our recruiting and People processes, especially in ambiguous or undefined situations

  • Handle confidential candidate and employee information with care and good judgment

Who You Are
  • Experience in Recruiting or People Ops: 1 - 3 years of experience as a Recruiting Coordinator, People Operations Coordinator, HR Coordinator, or in a similar role, ideally at a startup or tech company. Strong internship experience combined with exceptional ownership will also be considered

  • Organized and Detail-Oriented: Manage many moving pieces, from interview loops to new hire checklists, without dropping details

  • Candidate and Employee-First Mentality: Treat every interaction, whether with a candidate or a brand-new hire, as a chance to make someone feel supported

  • Strong Written and Verbal Communication: Write clear, friendly emails that build rapport and keep every stakeholder informed

  • Trustworthy with Sensitive Information: Understand the importance of confidentiality and use sound judgment when handling personal and employment data

  • AI-Native Working Style: Use AI tools regularly to streamline your work, and you are excited to find new ways to apply them

  • Bias Towards Process Improvement: Notice where a workflow is inefficient and take the initiative to fix it, rather than just working around it

  • Comfort with Ambiguity: Work across two functions and many stakeholders at once, even when the process isn’t fully defined yet

  • Nice to have: Experience with Ashby or a similar ATS, and Rippling or a similar HRIS and benefits platforms, and exposure to US employment basics (onboarding compliance, benefits enrollment cycles)

What We Offer
  • The base salary range for this role is $80,000-$100,000, depending on experience and level. In addition to base compensation, this role is eligible for meaningful equity, along with a comprehensive benefits package

  • 100% coverage of medical, dental, and vision insurance for employee and dependents

  • Flexible time off

  • Retirement and financial planning benefits, including access to pre-tax HSA, FSA, and commuter accounts, 401(k), and financial coaching resources

  • Comprehensive wellness benefits, including physical fitness, mental well-being, and fertility and family-building benefits through Carrot

  • Complimentary in-office lunches and snacks provided

  • Access to state-of-the-art AI models, generous usage of modern AI tools, and real-world business problems

  • Ownership of high-impact projects across top enterprises

  • A mission-driven, fast-moving culture that values curiosity, pragmatism, and excellence

Distyl has offices in San Francisco and New York. This role follows a hybrid collaboration model with 3+ days per week (Tuesday to Thursday) in the San Francisco office.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
