About Cassi & the Role

Cassi is building the coordination system for property and home management — tasks, routines, calendaring, and team coordination. We’re starting with the residential space and expanding into any environment where service and maintenance need to run like clockwork. We're Series A, growing fast, and hiring the team that will take us from hundreds of customers to thousands

About the Role

We're hiring a dedicated People Operations Manager to own the entire employee experience from offer acceptance to offboarding. This is for the person who wants to ensure every Cassi employee is taken care of, every process runs smoothly, and our talent infrastructure scales alongside the commercial growth

We already have a PEO in place, so payroll processing and benefits administration are handled operationally, but someone still needs to own the employee experience, keep us compliant, and be the go-to when people have questions

What You’ll Do

  • Employee Onboarding & Offboarding

    • Design and run a best-in-class onboarding experience — from signed offer through Day 90 — covering systems access, equipment, benefits enrollment, and culture immersion

    • Own the offboarding process with equal care: exits, equipment returns, final pay coordination, and COBRA notices through the PEO

  • PEO & Benefits Administration

    • Serve as the primary internal interface with our PEO to coordinate payroll changes, new hires, terminations, leave of absences, and compliance filings

    • Own benefits administration by answering employee questions, managing mid-year changes, and leading open enrollment each year

    • Administer our 401(k) plan — employee education, enrollment, and working with the plan provider on annual compliance

  • Compliance & HR Policy

    • Keep us current on applicable employment law including required postings, leave policies, pay transparency, and any changes that affect how we operate

    • Own the employee handbook and all people policies, updating them as we grow

    • Maintain proper documentation and records

  • Employee Relations

    • Be the first point of contact for employees with questions, concerns, or sensitive situations

    • Partner with leadership on performance management processes: review cycles, documentation, PIPs, and difficult conversations

  • People Data & HRIS

    • Own our HRIS — keep employee records clean and accurate, maintain org charts, and generate headcount and people analytics for leadership

    • Work cross-functionally with Finance on headcount planning and reporting

  • Culture & Engagement

    • Help us build something people want to be part of by coordinating team events, engagement surveys, recognition programs, and the small touches that make a big difference

    • Partner with leadership on initiatives that reinforce our values and culture as we scale

What We’re Looking For

  • 4–7 years of HR or People Operations experience, with meaningful time in a high-growth startup or fast-moving company

  • Hands-on experience working with a PEO (Sequoia One, Rippling, TriNet, Gusto, or similar)

  • Solid working knowledge of NYC and New York State employment law and compliance requirements

  • Builder mentality: you're comfortable creating processes and policies from scratch rather than inheriting a finished playbook

  • High agency and strong communication skills

  • Clear, warm communicator — you make HR feel approachable rather than bureaucratic

  • Experience supporting a company through rapid headcount growth (10 → 50+ employees)

What This Role is Not

This is not a recruiting or talent acquisition role. You’ll work closely with that person but that will be a separate hire. This is also not a VP or Director role. If you’re looking for a big team to manage and execute, this isn’t the right fit. We’re looking for someone who wants to build our People Ops function from the ground up

Location

New York, NY (Manhattan) — primarily in office

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
