Do you love building the people side of a mission-driven company — where new hires feel welcome, the details run smoothly, and the team feels cared for? Join us as our People Operations Manager and help the people who help families thrive.

About NeuroNav

At NeuroNav, we believe everyone deserves the opportunity to make their own choices and shape their story, regardless of disability. Our mission is to enhance the quality of life for adults with developmental disabilities through simplicity and choice. We help families navigate California’s Self-Determination Program, and our team of Navigators is the heart and soul of that work.

Founded at Stanford in 2020, we’re a high-growth, innovative team, and we’re building the people practices to match. Behind every Navigator supporting a family is a team that deserves to feel supported too. That’s where you come in.

About the Role

As our People Operations Manager, you’ll be the HR expert and steady hand behind the employee experience. You’ll make sure every new hire feels prepared and welcome from day one, keep payroll, compliance, and our people systems running with care, and oversee the IT that helps our team do their best work. You’ll also bring our culture to life through the rituals and moments that keep people excited to stay.

You’ll partner closely with our part-time Recruiter, who owns hiring, and you’ll be their manager and thought partner. Together, you’ll make sure a great candidate becomes a well-supported teammate.

This is a hands-on role with real ownership, clear priorities, and room to grow as we grow.

Responsibilities IncludeHR Operations, Payroll & Compliance

You’ll be the trusted go-to for how we do HR well.

  • Bring HR best practices to our policies, processes, and everyday employee questions

  • Keep employee records and HR systems (Gusto and related tools) accurate and organized

  • Oversee payroll: from timesheet approvals and error follow-up through final submission

  • Stay on top of compliance mail and filings, including state tax letters, agency follow-up, forms, and audits

  • Answer questions on HR policies, benefits, time off, and Gusto settings

  • Maintain clear people documentation and build an employee-friendly people ops FAQ

Onboarding & Offboarding

You’ll shape the first impression, and the last one, for every teammate.

  • Draft and manage offer letters, legal documents, and signatures once a candidate says yes

  • Run onboarding through Gusto and stay in touch with new hires until day one and beyond

  • Make sure every new hire has their accounts, equipment, and a warm welcome

  • Handle offboarding with care: access removal, separation agreements, final pay, and severance where applicable

  • Work hand in hand with our Recruiter for a seamless handoff from accepted offer to start date

IT & Systems Oversight

You’ll keep our tools, systems, and IT support running smoothly so our team can focus on families.

  • Oversee our outsourced IT firm, serving as the primary point of contact and ensuring timely, high-quality support for the team.

  • Manage access to tools and systems, including account setup and removal, and coordinate with our IT partner to maintain security and access controls.

  • Oversee software subscriptions, licenses, and seats, ensuring efficient usage and visibility into spend.

  • Partner with finance, leadership, and our IT firm on renewals, vendor relationships, and opportunities to reduce costs.

  • Coordinate equipment ordering, shipping, setup, and returns, while maintaining an accurate device inventory in partnership with our IT provider.

  • Triage internal technology questions and issues, coordinating with our outsourced IT team to ensure timely resolution and a positive employee experience.

  • Monitor the IT firm's performance, follow up on open issues, and ensure service levels and team needs are being met.

  • Identify opportunities to simplify our tools, improve IT processes, and streamline onboarding and offboarding.

Culture, Engagement & Retention

You’ll help make NeuroNav a place people thrive and retain our amazing talent.

  • Plan, attend, and organize our company offsite

  • Coordinate town halls and internal communications

  • Organize monthly team lunches and other morale-building moments

  • Support rituals, recognition, and values-in-action

  • Listen for themes in the employee experience and share what you learn with leadership

Compensation & People Programs

You’ll help us build programs that are fair, thoughtful, and well documented.

  • Research and benchmark compensation

  • Support role changes, leveling, and comp documentation

  • Help run performance reviews and comp cycles

Compensation strategy and final decisions rest with leadership. You’ll bring the analysis and make it happen.

Team Leadership & Operations

You’ll help our small, mighty team stay organized and supported.

  • Manage and coach our part-time Recruiter through regular 1:1s and shared priorities

  • Work with the Recruiter and leadership so hiring plans flow smoothly into onboarding

  • Contribute to special projects tied to employee experience, internal communication, or HR tooling

Recruiting is run day to day by our Recruiter; final hiring decisions rest with leadership.

What You’ll Bring
  • 5+ years of hands-on HR or people operations experience, ideally as a generalist in a small or growing organization

  • Working knowledge of US and California employment compliance and payroll, including state tax notices and filings

  • Experience with HRIS and payroll platforms (Gusto or similar)

  • Comfort administering SaaS tools and working with vendors, such as Google Workspace, Slack, HubSpot, and Notion

  • Experience with compensation benchmarking and leveling

  • Experience managing, mentoring, or coordinating the work of others

  • Warm, clear communication and comfort working across roles, schedules, and time zones

  • Alignment with our mission and values, and a proactive, organized, thoughtful approach

  • Comfort owning ambiguity and building from scratch

  • Nice to have: HR certification (SHRM-CP, PHR, or similar); experience in a nonprofit, healthcare, or disability-services setting

What Success Looks Like
  • New hires feel prepared, welcomed, and supported from day one

  • Payroll, compliance, and records are accurate, timely, and well documented

  • Our tools are clean, secure, and cost-conscious

  • Culture moments are consistent, thoughtful, and rooted in our values

  • Our Recruiter feels supported and hiring flows smoothly into onboarding

  • Leadership trusts that our people are in caring, capable hands

Benefits

We believe in supporting our employees’ well-being and work-life balance as part of our culture. [Confirm benefits and eligibility for a 20-hour role before posting.]

  • Remote first: ability to work from home

  • 401(k)

  • Paid time off

  • Sick or flex days

  • Annual company retreat

Pay: $38–$45 per hour (depending on experience)

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
