The People Operations Generalist supports HR processes like onboarding, data management, compliance, and employee support, ensuring effective operations.

How we'll deliver success:
The People Operations Generalist plays a key role in driving the effectiveness, consistency, and scalability of our People programs. You will support and optimize a wide range of HR processes from onboarding and data management to compliance and employee support. This role is ideal for someone who is detail-oriented, process-minded, and motivated to build strong, employee-centric operational foundations across the organization.
Shipping & Handling Responsibilities
- Track, manage, and maintain People Operations contracts and vendor documentation.
- Manage the People inbox, triaging and responding to Tier One employee inquiries (e.g., benefits, payroll, employment verifications, and general “Where do I find XYZ?” questions).
- Coordinate and process background checks, offer letters, and employment verifications.
- Maintain and update employee records, files, and documentation in HR systems.
- Support mail management including printing, mailing, and responding to document requests.
- Manage onboarding and offboarding processes to ensure a consistent and positive employee experience.
- Process employee changes and updates (e.g., promotions, title changes, manager updates).
- Provide operational support for People programs, including engagement, compliance, and benefits initiatives.
- Input, maintain, and process employee data accurately in HR systems.
- Prepare and distribute basic reports related to headcount, employee changes, and other HR metrics.
- Ensure data integrity and consistency across systems and processes.
- Ensure all People processes and documentation comply with company policies and employment laws.
- Manage secure storage and retrieval of employee records, contracts, and sensitive information.
- Assist with audits and compliance checks as needed.
Shipping Requirements
- 1-3 years of experience in HR, People Operations, or a related administrative role.
- Exceptional organizational skills and strong attention to detail.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proven ability to handle confidential information with professionalism and discretion.
- Comfortable managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Familiarity with HRIS and document management tools.
- A proactive, problem-solving mindset and genuine enthusiasm for helping people.
Bonus
- Experience with HR systems such as Rippling.
- Basic knowledge of employment law and compliance requirements.
- Working knowledge of benefits administration (e.g., FSA, HSA, commuter benefits, medical/dental/vision, leave programs, or open enrollment processes).
Our Compensation Shippolicy:
We believe compensation is a custom experience and are commited to fair and equitable compensation practices. The standard base pay range for this role is min is $95k to a max $129k annual salary. We tend to anchor our pay in the middle of this range ($112k). Since we are focused on hiring Shippos Everywhere, we have 2 US pay ranges, a standard compensation range for the majority of the US and a standard +1 compensation range for those who live in areas where the cost of labor is higher, such as NYC and California.
The actual base pay is dependent upon many factors, such as: financial budgets, work experience, training, transferable skills, business needs, and market value. The base pay salary ranges are subject to change and may be modified in the future. Total compensation for this role will include, equity, medical, dental, vision and other benefits noted in our Shippos “package” section.
