SEL is seeking a PCB Designer to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment designing printed circuit boards for high-reliability applications. In this role, you will contribute to the full PCB design lifecycle, partnering closely with engineers to create manufacturable, testable, and robust designs that meet demanding performance and quality requirements.

If you are an innovative, detail-oriented designer who thrives on solving complex layout challenges and delivering high-quality designs, this position is for you.

As a PCB Designer, a typical day might include the following:

  • Design and develop PCB layouts from schematics under the mentorship of experienced Designers and Engineers.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with electrical, mechanical, and manufacturing engineers to translate schematic intent into reliable PCB designs.
  • Schedule and lead design review meetings for assigned projects, incorporating feedback and driving design improvements.
  • Apply engineering change orders (ECOs) to PCB layouts and associated documentation.
  • Perform component placement, routing, and design rule implementation with attention to signal integrity, power integrity, and manufacturability.
  • Perform Layout based simulations.
  • Generate fabrication and assembly documentation (Gerbers, drawings, BOMs) to support manufacturing.
  • Support PCB fabrication, assembly, and test by working with internal teams and external vendors to resolve design issues.
  • Adhere to and help maintain PCB design standards and IPC guidelines.

This job might be for you if:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering discipline, OR equivalent professional experience
  • Experience with CAD tools (such as Allegro, Xpedition, Altium, Solidworks, or similar CAD platforms).
  • Experience creating and managing ECAD libraries (symbols, footprints, and components).
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple designs and deadlines.
  • Value to provide unmatched customer service.

What Sets This Role Apart:

  • Opportunity to work on complex, high variety, high-reliability products.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
