This is a very exciting and highly innovative time here at Outside.

OUR TRUE NORTH:

Outside Interactive, Inc., the premier hub for active lifestyle enthusiasts, offers best-in-class content and experiences to more than 70 million of the world’s most passionate outdoor, wellness, and endurance enthusiasts every month. We inspire a broad and diverse audience to do the activities they love with greater enjoyment, inspiration, and knowledge and are dedicated to making real change in the outdoor and fitness industries.

We're looking for a Payroll Manager to take full ownership of our multi-country payroll operations, ensuring every paycheck reflects accuracy, compliance, and care. This role requires someone experienced in U.S. and Canadian payroll, highly proficient in Rippling, and comfortable navigating international payroll via Employer of Record (EOR) partners.

You’ll also lead payroll audits, support HR compliance, and act as a clear communicator to employees when it comes to understanding paycheck deductions, benefits costs, and retirement contributions. This is both a tactical and strategic role with a direct impact on employee trust and financial accuracy.

What You’ll Do
  • Run end-to-end payroll for salaried and hourly employees in the U.S., Canada and Germany, processing multiple payroll frequencies (bi-weekly, semi-monthly, and monthly) for various entities, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and tax compliance.
  • Act as the point of contact for payroll in the UK and France, collaborating with Employer of Record partners to ensure proper payments and documentation.
  • Serve as our internal Rippling expert — managing payroll workflows, audits, reporting, and system optimizations.
  • Work with the Benefits and People Ops teams to ensure accurate deduction setup for medical, dental, vision, HSA/FSA, and 401(k) programs.
  • Ensure accurate processing of both exempt and non-exempt employee payrolls, including complex pay structures such as overtime, bonuses, commissions, and variable compensation.
  • Collaborate with Finance on reconciliations, payroll allocations, and forecast modeling.
  • Educate employees on their paychecks, benefit deductions, tax withholdings, and retirement contributions — breaking down complex topics in a clear, helpful way.
  • Lead and execute regular payroll audits, ensuring compliance with state and federal wage and hour laws.
  • Support HR compliance-related tasks including wage garnishments, payroll records retention, pay equity reporting, and employee classification reviews.
  • Stay current on legislation impacting payroll, tax codes, and benefit deductions, proactively advising on necessary changes.
What You’ll Bring
  • Mastery of Rippling — including payroll processing, auditing, and advanced reporting
  • 5+ years of hands-on payroll experience, with multi-state U.S. payroll expertise required
  • Strong experience managing Canadian payroll, and exposure to German payroll practices
  • Comfort working with EOR providers in the UK and France to ensure compliance and accurate payments
  • Strong understanding of benefits cost structures, paycheck deductions, 401(k) plans, and tax withholdings
  • Meticulous attention to detail and a high standard of accuracy
  • Clear communicator, especially when explaining pay and benefits to employees
  • Discretion and professionalism in handling sensitive data and employee information

What We Offer:

Entirely remote jobs that could be performed in Colorado: Employees can expect to be paid a salary of between $75,000 to $100,000. What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
