Payment Partnerships Manager

As a Payment Partnerships Manager based in our Toronto office, you will play a critical role in managing and expanding Adyen’s strategic partnerships with key payment methods (including card networks, local and alternative payment methods, and financial institutions) and other ecosystem partners in Canada and the US, and will serve as our lead Payment Partnerships stakeholder for the Canada market. This role requires a blend of strategic thinking, relationship management, and commercial acumen to strengthen Adyen’s position in the evolving payments landscape.

What you’ll do:

  • Manage Strategic Partnerships – Oversee and grow relationships with key local payment providers, ensuring alignment with Adyen’s long-term strategy.
  • Go-To-Market Execution – Define and implement go-to-market plans in collaboration with internal stakeholders and external partners.
  • Commercial Negotiations – Negotiate contracts and commercial agreements with partners to optimize Adyen’s unit economics and overall business performance.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration – Work closely with product, legal, finance, sales, and operational teams to ensure high-quality implementations and ongoing performance.
  • Ecosystem Development – Design and execute initiatives to expand Adyen’s influence in the payments ecosystem, fostering new opportunities for growth.
  • Industry Thought Leadership – Represent Adyen at industry conferences, partner meetings, and external forums, positioning the company as a leader in the payments space.
  • Canadian Market Expertise - Serve as our primary partnerships stakeholder to Canada country leadership and our key partners serving the Canadian payments ecosystem.

Who you are

The ideal candidate is a seasoned partnerships professional with a deep understanding of the payments and fintech landscape. You are commercially savvy, able to navigate complex negotiations, and can drive strategic initiatives across multiple teams.

Qualifications & Skills

  • 7+ years of experience in strategic partnerships, business development, or related roles within technology or fintech.
  • Deep knowledge of the payments and banking ecosystem, including card and non-card payment methods like BNPL and Interac.
  • Strong commercial instincts, with a proven ability to negotiate contracts and optimize business outcomes.
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills, capable of influencing both internal and external teams at all levels.
  • Product intuition, with the ability to understand technical and business aspects of payment integrations.
  • Self-starter who thrives in ambiguous environments and can align cross-functional teams around a clear strategy.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present confidently to senior stakeholders and external audiences.
  • Comfortable representing Adyen at industry events and conferences to enhance the company’s visibility and thought leadership.
