Job Description

The Patient Services Strategy Franchise Director, BOTOX Therapeutic is a senior leadership role accountable for shaping and executing AbbVie's patient support strategies across all BOTOX Therapeutic indications. This leader ensures that when patients and HCPs select BOTOX as their preferred therapy, they are able to start and stay on therapy. The role demands a strategic, results-driven leader who thrives in a complex, matrixed environment, operates with a high degree of initiative and accountability, and builds influential partnerships across the BOTOX Brand team and broader cross-functional organization. This position also leads the annual financial and long-range planning process for patient support programs in close alignment with Brand and Business Unit leadership.

Responsibilities:

  • Owns end-to-end development and execution of patient support programs for the BOTOX Therapeutic franchise — from strategy design through care model performance — defining clear KPIs and holding the organization accountable to results.
  • Leads the integrated Patient Services team in U.S. strategy development and tactical execution; chairs care model team meetings to rigorously assess program effectiveness, surface improvement opportunities, and drive better patient outcomes.
  • Accountable for removing barriers to therapy initiation — ensuring that every patient who’s prescriber has chosen BOTOX Therapeutic has the access, support, and follow-through needed to start and stay on treatment. Oversees AbbVie investment and resource allocation to optimize patient access and adherence.
  • Partners closely and proactively with the BOTOX Brand team and sits on the Integrated Brand Team (IBT) to align patient support programs with brand strategic imperatives; designs and continuously optimizes fit-for-purpose program ecosystems that advance both patient and commercial objectives.
  • Serves as the primary integrator between Patient Services teams and brand partners, ensuring programs are designed around real patient and provider needs — and that brand strategy is fully reflected in care model execution.
  • Provides strategic direction and marketing material to the Field Reimbursement Managers, who are responsible for field access and reimbursement support.
  • Drives a culture of accountability and performance across functions; proactively identifies gaps, takes initiative to course-correct, and delivers regular, data-informed updates to senior leadership on program performance.
  • Continuously monitors brand priorities, market economics, future needs, and franchise and patient trends to ensure strategies remain current, competitive, and aligned with business needs.
  • Leads the development and ongoing refinement of the patient care model and supporting resources, ensuring optimal patient outcomes and measurable care model performance for the BOTOX Therapeutic franchise.
  • Ensures rigorous financial planning, resourcing, and prioritization of franchise initiatives; maintains strong budgetary discipline and fiscal accountability throughout the program lifecycle.
  • Takes ownership of escalation and decision-making for delivery risks, resource conflicts, or cross-functional misalignment — acting decisively as the accountable leader for franchise performance.
  • Demonstrates executive presence and sophisticated stakeholder leadership; builds trusted relationships at all levels of the organization and earns influence through expertise, credibility, and results.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent; advanced degree (MBA, MPH, etc.) preferred
  • 12+ years of experience in healthcare
  • 12+ years of experience working at a pharmaceutical company in roles involving strategy and execution
  • Strong enterprise thinking, strategic planning, and financial acumen; data-driven mindset with the ability to connect broader organizational goals to franchise-specific strategies and measurable patient outcomes.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and influence in a highly matrixed organization — driving alignment, accountability, and results across functions without direct reporting authority.
  • Expertise in buy-and-bill access and reimbursement across all end-to-end patient touchpoints is preferred, with a clear understanding of the barriers that prevent patients from initiating therapy and how to systematically remove them.
  • Proven portfolio strategy depth — proactively identifies opportunities, anticipates challenges, and drives sound decision-making at scale; takes initiative without waiting to be directed.
  • Operational track record as a brand or portfolio leader with a sophisticated understanding of business strategy, cross-functional stakeholder leadership, and project management — with measurable commercial success to show for it.
  • Significant experience aligning with commercial and therapeutic area strategic priorities across multiple business cycles (expansion, stabilization, stagnation); broad functional knowledge spanning strategy, marketing, access and reimbursement, patient engagement, APS operations, and quality and compliance.
  • Skilled at navigating matrixed organizations; builds credible, influential relationships across a diverse set of internal and external stakeholders and key decision-makers — earning trust and driving outcomes without formal authority.
  • Catalyst for change: anticipates shifts in the patient access and care model landscape, acts with urgency, and leads the organization through strategic pivots — clearly articulating the rationale and driving effective implementation.
  • Leads effectively through complexity and ambiguity; simplifies difficult topics for broad audiences, prioritizes ruthlessly, and moves forward with conviction — resilient, agile, and comfortable making decisions with imperfect information.
  • Strong financial acumen; translates business strategy into economic and financial terms — and vice versa — with clarity and precision.
  • Balances strategic vision with operational execution; serves as a thought partner and trusted sounding board to stakeholders across the organization. Skilled at navigating competing priorities — finds the win-win where possible and makes the tough call when necessary.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
