Note: Relocation assistance is not provided.
The Part-Time Student Program is primarily designed to augment the Company's regular full-time staff and is for students who work in parallel to their school schedule YEAR-ROUND.
Your Responsibilities
As a Part-Time Student - Continuous Improvement for JD Power Systems located in Waterloo, Iowa, you will:
  • Analyze warranty claims and work with the Customer Support organization to examine failed parts
  • Use defined processes and tools to conduct root-cause analysis
  • Coordinate with Product Verification and Validation factories and suppliers to validate and implement the solution
  • Maintain and develop new tools and process for efficiency improvements
  • Assist the team in identifying issues and proposing resolutions
  • Support the team in defining and documenting assembly and test procedures

This position is NOT available to students on immigration visas.
What Skills You Need
  • Ideally you will be pursuing a degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Computer Science or Data Analytics; others may apply
  • Must be registered as a full-time student at a local accredited university
  • Graduation date of December 2026 or later
  • Cumulative GPA of 2.8 or above
  • Available to work during the academic year 16-20 hours/weekly between the business hours of 7 AM to 5 PM
  • Available to work during the summer semester 35-40 hours/weekly between the business hours of 7 AM to 5 PM
  • Must be able to commute to the work location in Waterloo, Iowa, on a weekly basis year-round (NOTE: Relocation assistance is not provided.)
  • Experience with MS Office suite (PowerPoint, Excel, Word, Outlook) or equivalent
  • Ability to work within a diverse workforce
  • Initiative to complete tasks and a process-oriented mindset
  • Strong communication and organization skills
  • Ability to prioritize multiple projects to meet project schedules

  • Understanding of engines and engine components
  • Experience with Visualization tools such as Tableau, PowerBI, DataStudio, etc.
  • Good interpersonal, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills
  • High level of attention to detail and accuracy
  • Persistence; able to overcome obstacles by thinking creatively and applying new ideas.
  • Inquisitiveness; approach problems with curiosity and an open mind.
  • Ability to work autonomously as well as in a project team.
  • Experience with Creo Parametric or other 3D modeling software packages
  • Expert user of Excel, PDMLink, SAP
  • Proficiency in programming languages, such as SQL or Python.

$15 - $40 hourly based on published rates for business function and education level.
