Position Summary
Aventon is looking for a hands-on Paralegal to join our team and support a wide range of legal and business matters. This role is highly cross-functional and will touch on contracts, corporate records, intellectual property, compliance, and claims management. You’ll also play a key role in helping the company manage injury-related claims and lawsuits. The ideal candidate is organized, proactive, and comfortable balancing legal work with business needs in a fast-moving environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Draft, review, and negotiate a variety of contracts, agreements, and company policies.
  • Maintain and organize corporate records, including minute books, resolutions, and compliance filings.
  • Coordinate with external counsel to ensure timely communication and efficient case management.
  • Assist in managing product- and bike-related claims and litigation matters.
  • Support legal responses to lawsuits and prepare documentation, evidence, and discovery materials.
  • Track and monitor all claims, litigation, and related deadlines.
  • Support the management of intellectual property, including trademarks, copyrights, and patents.
  • Conduct legal research on laws, regulations, and industry best practices.
  • Assist with compliance initiatives and monitor updates to applicable regulations.
  • Provide administrative support to the legal team, including scheduling, correspondence, and file management.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather information and documentation for legal matters.
  • Handle confidential and sensitive information with discretion and professionalism.

Qualifications:

  • Paralegal certificate or Associate degree in Paralegal Studies from an accredited program (Bachelor’s degree preferred).
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience as a paralegal, preferably in the retail, consumer products, or e-mobility/electric bicycle industries.
  • Strong knowledge of corporate, contract, intellectual property, and litigation procedures.
  • Experience managing product liability claims, injury claims, or related lawsuits is highly desirable.
  • Excellent legal research, writing, and communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and legal research platforms (e.g., Westlaw, LexisNexis).
  • Experience with legal document management or case management software is a plus.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams.

Physical Requirements and Environmental Conditions:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Ability to use hands and fingers to operate standard office equipment, including keyboard, mouse, telephone, copier, and scanner.
  • Must be able to communicate clearly in person, over the phone, and in writing.
  • Occasionally required to lift up to 15 pounds (such as files, case binders, or office supplies).
  • Ability to bend, reach, and retrieve documents from filing cabinets or shelves.
  • Work is performed in an in-office, climate-controlled environment.
  • Regular work hours are Monday through Friday, with occasional flexibility required to meet deadlines.
  • Standard office equipment is used daily; noise level is typically low to moderate.
  • Minimal travel may be required for meetings, court filings, or offsite consultations.

Keys to Success:

  • DATA DRIVEN – you thrive on data and use it to guide your decision making, recommendations, and priorities.
  • NIMBLE – you can work in ambiguity and are committed to helping Aventon level up. You can shift perspectives, priorities, and deadlines.
  • RESILIENT – you don’t shy away from a challenge and take every opportunity to learn and grow. You’re accountable, can admit when you’re wrong, and can come back to the table after a hard day to keep working toward our desired future.
  • SOLUTIONS ORIENTED / SOLUTIONIZED – you can identify the problem and find a solution for it. You strive for continuous improvement and aren’t afraid to speak up about what is working, and what isn’t.
  • ENGAGED – you love the work, love the product, and believe in the mission. If you don’t connect with something about Avant Sports, this probably isn’t the place for you.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
