Radiant is an El-Segundo, CA-based clean energy startup building a nuclear microreactor. A climate-friendly alternative to diesel generators, Radiant's Kaleidos 1MW microreactor will be the world's first portable, zero-emissions power source that works anywhere. We plan to test our development reactor by 2026 and if successful, it will be the first new commercial reactor design to achieve a fueled test in over 50 years. Radiant's goal is to bring one of the world's first factory-constructed microreactors to market. Our microreactor can bring power to remote parts of the world and provide backup power for life-saving applications in hospitals or disaster-relief scenarios.

Mechanical Integration Engineer (Electronics Packaging)

Radiant is seeking a Mechanical Integration Engineer to own packaging and integration of turbomachinery and electrical systems from requirements capture through operation lifecycle. This role is crucial for ensuring the nuclear microreactor meets structural and safety requirements while optimizing for cost, efficiency, manufacturability, and serviceabiilty. You'll join a dynamic team focusing on the design and development of power conversion and electrical systems converting heat generated from a nuclear reactor to clean, abundant electricity for customers. This role requires strong communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with various teams within engineering, manufacturing, and validation. You'll play an instrumental role in building Earth's first mass-produced nuclear reactors.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Contribute to the strategy and packaging of the electrical systems to meet structural and safety requirements.
  • Apply communication and negotiation skills to facilitate discussions between hardware engineering teams.
  • Use attention to detail in GD&T analyses and installation drawings to convey assembly intent.
  • Promote the use of CAD methods and standard processes within the power conversion department.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • BS in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering.
  • 2+ years of experience in integrating, designing, and/or building mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Strong capabilities in 3DX/CATIA/NX/Solidworks for the development of mechanical designs and prototypes.
  • Experience in integration and packaging of electrical power plants, electric propulsion (eVTOL), electric powertrain (EVs), or complicated high voltage electrical systems.

Desired Skills and Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated strong mechanical engineering fundamentals across a broad range of topics.
  • Design packaging of electrical systems into an aircraft, EV, spacecraft, gas turbine, microturbine, wind turbine or nuclear reactor.
  • Experience drafting, piping, and updating instrumentation schematics.
  • Experience creating drawings like P&IDs, ICDs, and GADs for electrical systems, cooling loops, seal gas systems, and related rotating equipment.

Additional Requirements:

  • Must be willing to work extended hours and weekends as necessary to achieve company goals.
  • Must be willing to work 100% onsite at our El Segundo headquarters.

Employee Benefits for Eligible Employees:

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
