Job Summary
The Aerospace Corporation's Experiment Lab, xLab, develops prototypes, instruments, pathfinders, and demonstration systems to address our customers' hardest problems at the speed of need. We engage with our customers to conceptualize innovative solutions and deliver impactful products for ground and space and everything in between. We are looking for technicians with a passion for workmanship, a commitment to teamwork and a desire to help xLab make a difference to today's challenges.
As a Electromechanical Technician, you will work alongside engineers putting together next generation hardware. This position is a full-time position based in El Segundo, CA.
What You'll Be Doing
- Self-directed with excellent organizational skills and problem-solving skills
- Provide hands-on technical support to engineers and scientists
- Assemble lab, ground, air, and space experiments
- Multitask with multiple customers on multiple projects
- Show accountability by independently assessing situations and following efforts through to completion
Electromechanical Technician I is available as a Technical Specialist - Electromechanical I or Technical Specialist - Electromechanical II
What You Need to be Successful
Minimum Requirements:
Technical Specialist - Electromechanical I
- High school diploma or GED is required
- Typically, 2 or more years of relevant experience
- Experience working with laboratory safety protocols is essential
- Use precision calibrated tools - torque wrenches, torque drivers, calipers
- Apply staking, conformal coating, and paints
- Kitting of printed circuit board parts in preparation for assembly
- Manage inventory of lab supplies and equipment
- Maintain test setups including thermal and thermal-vac test chambers
- Inspect circuit board assemblies and mechanical assemblies
- Willingness to occasionally travel and to work off-business hours to support customer needs, approximately one to two weeks at a time (as required)
- This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance, which is issued by the US government. U.S citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance
Technical Specialist - Electromechanical II
Same requirements as Technical Specialist - Electromechanical I noted above, in addition to:
- Typically, 4 or more years of relevant experience is required
How You Can Stand Out
It would be impressive if you have one or more of these:
Technical Specialist - Electromechanical I or Technical Specialist - Electromechanical II
- Graduated from a technical college or other recognized apprenticeship is highly desired
- Certifications or similar within aerospace, aviation or automotive is preferred
- Experience operating in an R&D laboratory environment is preferred
- Experience using computer aided design tools to develop and understand schematics and demonstrated capability to trouble-shoot electronics systems is highly desirable
- Experience with vacuum systems, gauges, controllers, and automation is preferred
- Experience with laboratory test equipment including multi-meters, oscilloscopes, power supplies, and pulse generators
