The Horticulture Operations Director has the responsibility to plan and direct farms operations to improve productivity and efficiency. Working with the Vice President of Operations help streamline processes and plans for growth. This role is vital in spearheading operational movement and supporting the team. Work closely with demand and supply planning, logistics, engineering, and sales to assist with process improvements and operational efficiencies to support company goals.

Responsibilities:

  • Overseeing all farms operations for LG own farms and 3rd party farms (growing, fulfillment)
  • Provide guidance and advice in horticulture related activities for the business and external customers.
  • Ensuring proper team sizing and onboarding of new farm team members
  • Responsible for R&D initiatives (design, execution, reporting, conclusions)
  • Responsible for own farm facilities maintenance (site and equipment)
  • Responsible for preventive maintenance farm programs (Facilities, equipment, etc)
  • Responsible for effective pest management plan/protocol for all farms
  • Setting and/or improvement of the standards operating procedures for the farms (including, but not limited to growing, fulfillment, maintenance, reporting)
  • Maintaining strong relationship with 3rd party farms
  • Monitoring inventory levels and anticipating needed volumes according to Business plans
  • Evaluate and improve on horticulture methods to better promote seedlings
  • Participate in Farm Technology improvement projects
  • Preparing a projected budget
  • Monitor farms KIP’s, propose and run efficiency and improvement projects
  • Responsible for all necessary farm certifications
  • Work with Operations leadership on farms related improvement and innovation projects
  • Other related duties as may be assigned

Required Experience and Qualifications

  • Strong generalist with extensive knowledge in horticulture and farming operations
  • Masters in Horticulture, agronomy or related field preferred
  • 7+ years directly managing business operations, horticulture experience
  • Excellent people skills
  • Forward-thinking mindset, able to see the big picture at all times
  • Able to work in a highly collaborative, iterative environment
  • Comfortable multi-tasking and prioritizing tasks and adjusting as needed
  • Strong problem-solving skills and willingness to roll up your sleeves to get the job done
  • Ability to be flexible in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Google Suite
