Head of Information Technology (IT)
Team and Role Overview:
At Relativity, we reimagine the way rockets are built and flown. We are redefining design, manufacturing and operational processes, to create the first 21st-century aerospace company. We are looking for a Head of IT to join our growing team at our headquarters in Los Angeles. As Head of IT at Relativity, you will be responsible for all areas involving enterprise systems, IT infrastructure, development operations, systems administration, and helpdesk. You are passionate about technology and people, and bring a thought leader mindset to all automation and infrastructure challenges. As a strategic and hands-on partner to the Relativity leadership team, you will apply latest industry standards, but also continuously push boundaries and define new ways of leveraging technology to operate as a company. You will manage and grow the IT team at Relativity, and report to the VP of Operations.
Outcomes and Objectives:
To help us reimagine the way rockets are built and flown, as Relativity’s Head of IT, you will
· Take charge to make sure that Relativity has the IT infrastructure in place to meet its aggressive growth targets, and meets flexibility, reliability, and cost targets
· Ensure the Relativity helpdesk meets all teams’ needs and operates resource-efficiently, and at scale
· Establish and run software that meets all critical functional needs, and optimizes the trade-off between buy and build
· Establish information security standards and metrics, and ensure consistent success meeting InfoSec targets
· Define and implement a highly functional multi-site IT infrastructure strategy, spanning all of our current and future sites
· Run an IT organization at Relativity that consistently pushes the envelope on technology, while operating at high resource efficiency
Candidate Profile:
To be successful in this role, you should have 7+ years of experience in IT management, ideally in a small-to-midsized, high-growth environment in a technology company. Prior experience working across the fields of IT infrastructure, applications, and support operations is critical. You have proven in past roles that you can support systems/infrastructure rollouts end to end as an operations-centric IT leader. Always curious to explore ways how we can work more effectively and efficiently, you are a partner to all teams at Relativity, and unlock automation opportunities by being a technology thought leader.
You are a master at engaging with different functional teams to establish comprehensive IT roadmaps, and show outstanding customer orientation by providing support and guidance to all user groups. You are a passionate leader that continuously wants to improve your team’s performance, while working with each team member to identify development goals and provide coaching to achieve them. You thrive in ambiguous environments, are passionate about building structure from scratch, and have an untiring focus on excellent results.
Minimum Required Skills and Competencies
- Proven experience as an IT leader in a startup or other dynamic, high-growth company environment.
- Expertise in analysis, implementation, and evaluation of technology infrastructure and systems.
- Sound understanding of computer systems (hardware/software, networks etc.).
- Experience in scaling infrastructure and systems, while managing a tight information technology budget.
- Outstanding customer orientation to provide partnership and support throughout all IT operations challenges and needs.
- Outstanding communication and influencing abilities, paired with strong team leadership.
- BSc/BA in computer science, engineering or relevant field; MSc/MA will be a plus
- Strong business acumen. Experience with approaching IT/Tech Ops as a business person first, solving for business issues and objectives.
- You bring a thought leadership mindset to the table to support a high performance and growth environment, but you don’t mind operating at the tactical level as needed
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills - including the ability to communicate with people in multiple locations in a high-touch personalized manner.
- Always an enthusiastic team player with a strong drive to create a positive work environment.
- Comfortable with high-volume workload and self-driven prioritization.
- Demonstrated experience engaging with vendors and outside contractors to meet organizational objectives.
Preferred Skills and Competencies
- Previously demonstrated leadership experience among teams of technical staff.
- Experience with a scripting language or other programming language.
- Experience with working with other teams to support activities and training to overcome barriers to product and process acceptance and use.
This position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a United States Person as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.15 is required.
