Director of U.S. Safety Operations at TikTok

As Director of US Safety Operations, you will lead a world-class team responsible for ensuring that TikTok remains a vibrant, diverse, inclusive, and authentic place for the entire community. You will be directly responsible for ensuring that our Community Guidelines' enforcement remains fair and consistent by managing content moderation professionals providing a 24/7 follow-the-sun service -- ready to expeditiously and scalably respond to safety issues. This role will require creative solutions, especially with moderation, quality, and vendor operations, and a deep understanding of abuse trends specific to US cultural norms and sensitivities. As a senior Safety leader, you will be integral to ensuring that our moderation efforts are communicated and aligned with various global leaders across multiple regions. This position will be full-time with the team located in Los Angeles, CA.
Responsibilities: - Oversee the continued development of TikTok's US Safety Operations team, which includes Safety Enforcement, Quality Assurance, and Risk Management - Drive a full-measured, sustainable, and preventable safety strategy across the entire ecosystem -- including video, account, comments, and livestream - Effectively scale the growing number of moderated content by investing in capacity planning and data-driven workload forecasting - Ensure that our enforcement decisions remain consistent and accurate while also prioritizing our defined Service Level Agreements - Collaborate with your US Safety peers across Policy, Strategy & Analytics, and Legal Operations to map out objectives and key results - Act as a key collaborator with various business functions on relevant work, including Partnerships, Comms, Public Policy, and Legal - Represent TikTok at industry-sponsored events, including working groups and collaboration with civil society and advocacy - Act as a champion for wellness and resiliency by advocating for team members who handle sensitive or disturbing content
- 7+ years of leadership experience in Trust & Safety, content moderation, community operations, or policy development - Experience in managing global operations at scale, including developing relationships with multiple external partners to ensure they meet expectations - Experience in delivering long-term strategies that align with the overall mission of the business as well as meets the expectations of Safety's core metrics - Demonstrated systematic thought process regarding policy and thorough operational experience - Background in operational excellence with a proven ability to structure policy and process-oriented milestones - Ability to thrive in ambiguous environments, identify trade-offs, and make decisions in high-pressure situations - In-depth knowledge in how policy develops in new media, technology, entertainment, or related fields - Strong attention to detail -- highly self-driven and results-oriented Preferred qualifications: - Experience working with international partners in different time zones. - Proven ability to develop sound research methodologies and collect, synthesize, analyze, and interpret data - Experience managing complex research projects - Experience working in a start-up or forming new teams in established companies - Advanced proficiency in Excel - Understanding of data access tools, including but not limited to SQL TikTok is committed to creating an inclusive space where employees are valued for their skills, experiences, and unique perspectives.
