The Role
The ideal candidate for the Director of Supply Chain and Procurement role is someone with extensive experience in international purchasing and procurement who is willing to roll up their sleeves and build the department from the ground up. The role requires driving processes independently and putting structures in place. The right candidate enjoys international travel, supply chain logistics, and building long-standing relationships with strategic suppliers. The ideal individual would be exceptionally competent, resourceful, meticulous, well-organized and possess great negotiating skills.
Areas of Responsibility
Deal Execution and Management
Sourcing and ensuring orders are delivered on time with exceptional service
Identifying and visiting international suppliers to assess production capacity and capacity
Developing and maintaining strong relationships with strategic suppliers
Negotiating pricing and terms
Tracking and expediting open orders
Managing and executing the RFP to Purchase Order Cycle
Keeping stakeholders updated on purchasing and delivery events or changes
Ensure the health and retention of all accounts
Purchasing
Reviewing, analyzing and approving entries, receipts of inventory, inbound shipments, and warehouse release
Developing ERP modules for purchasing and logistics
Tracking payment approvals
Managing proper billing for logistics and procurement
Resolving discrepancies in purchasing and delivery to prevent supply chain friction
Logistics
Properly classifying items for importation
Managing inventory with rigorous detail
Ensuring compliance with any entity
Ensuring proper duties are paid on time
Making sure all client orders are delivered on time and on budget
Building best processes around risk management and insurance coverage
Vendor Management
Managing both inbound and outbound transportation
Managing steel vendors, transportation vendors and customs brokers
Sourcing and contracting boats and trucks for freight logistics
Database Aggregation and Management
Analyzing procurement data and report metrics
Aggregating and tracking data in the internal CRM database
Ensuring the company is establishing and following best practices
Establishing processes for safekeeping of inventory
Ensuring records are always current, reliable and accurate
Pricing and Availability Management
Researching and ensuring proactive pricing and availability based on market research
Tracking and analyzing current and historic pricing
Staying informed of current global events
Contacting suppliers directly to validate pricing and availability
Requirements
Minimum 3-5 years of experience in B2B Purchasing/Procurement
Strong analytical and organizational skills
BS/BA degree from a top-ranking university
Very comfortable with international and domestic travel
Knowledge of Incoterms
Excellent track record of meeting and exceeding goals
Familiar with current productivity technology tools (i.e- Slack)
Strong business acumen with a 24/7 work ethic mentality
The ability to flourish with minimal guidance, be proactive and to handle uncertainty, ambiguity and the challenge of quickly evolving goals
An adaptable and resilient attitude; must be comfortable with a fast-paced, scrappy, and dynamic startup environment
