Bird is a last-mile electric vehicle sharing company dedicated to bringing safe, low-cost, environmentally-friendly transportation solutions to communities across the world. We provide a fleet of electric, shared scooters that can be accessed via smartphone. Bird is headquartered in Venice, California and is rapidly expanding across the country and the world.

The Director of Nests is a unique opportunity to manage Bird’s national location platform strategy and portfolio. Nests are physical spaces defining how, where, when and why a Bird may be parked, picked up, serviced or otherwise used by a member of the Bird community or our partners. You and your team will create, manage and oversee the speedy creation of millions of Nests across the United States. In essence, you control all of the physical space used by the Bird community across the nation.

You will build a team of data-driven operators who leverage the Bird community, channel partnerships, sales, crowdsourcing, internal data, external data feeds and other unique tactics to create Nests across every city. You will work closely with our City Ops, Field Ops, Product, Data Science, and Engineering teams to develop the tools, processes and products to support the rapid and accurate creation of Nests. Partnering with our Sales, Partnerships and Government Relations teams you will support their needs for data, reporting and geolocation services.

Leading Nests you will drive the product, process, rules, and algorithms to ensure the Nest program supports the needs of our community as well as our internal teams. You will also establish quality control and monitoring to enforce compliance and quality across the portfolio of Nests.

What You'll Do:

  • Build and lead the Nest team from the ground up; hiring, leading and developing a large team of managers and direct contributors
  • Develop a comprehensive strategy for the Nest program that accounts for the company’s growth priorities and scaling requirements
  • Develop processes, teams, tools and product to collect and analyze millions of locations across the US
  • Negotiate data partnerships and channel strategies to collect data at scale
  • Drive creative approaches to data collection and verification
  • Partner with product, data science, and engineering to develop unique products
  • Partner with Field Ops, City Ops, Growth and Government Relations to ensure Nests support their needs
  • Ensure Nests support the needs of the Bird Community: Chargers, Mechanics and Riders
  • Develop rules and algorithms to ensure the proper utilization of Nests
  • Ability to understand operations, sales, partnerships, and government relations needs and deliver Nest products and reports
  • Build a high performance team; motivate them to continually achieve higher levels of business impact
  • Effectively navigate a matrixed environment with operations teams, product, data, growth, government relations, strategy, finance and other senior leadership

What You'll Need:

  • BS degree in Math, Economics, Statistics, Engineering, Computer Science, or related quantitative discipline
  • At least 8 years work experience, with proven expertise driving massive data collection efforts
  • Experience negotiating data acquisition partnerships
  • Experience identifying, negotiating with and managing multiple vendors
  • History of working collaboratively with product and engineering to drive internal tools and products
  • Proven history of developing creative data collection operations
  • High energy and motivational leadership driven by personal influence and example with direct staff, peers, and senior leaders across all company functions
  • Strong experience managing teams 
  • Exceptional ability to dig into raw data and surface actionable insights in support of business growth and key company strategy/roadmap decisions
  • Ability to prioritize time wisely in the face of myriad projects
  • Strong problem-solving skills with ability to simplify the complex
  • Strong relationship-building skills and communication skills
  • Humble, not territorial, collaborative, high EQ and IQ
