The Director of Narrative, Partnerships + Social reports to the Executive Creative Director (ECD) and is responsible for leading the creative team in executing full-scale integrated campaigns from concept to completion, helping to raise the bar of excellence and creative thinking within the in-house brand studio.

As a leader and practitioner, the Director of Narrative, Partnerships + Social will build and guide a team of multidisciplinary conceptual thinkers, while staying close to the creative output across various touchpoints. Their experience extends beyond traditional advertising and into branding, digital thinking, social-focused, and experiential ideas. Fluent in culture, the position finds inspiration that transcends industry boundaries, and it shows in their work.

The position is an innovator, collaborator, skilled strategist, and storyteller who brings sweetgreen’s mission and purpose to life. They play a pivotal role in shepherding our brand voice and narrative, working with the ECD, Director of Brand and Design Director to set brand and creative strategy in connecting sweetgreen not only to food, but culture at large.

Core job duties + responsibilities:

  • Lead creatively: Guide, inspire, and motivate a creative team made up of exceptional writers, art directors, social creators, and conceptual thinkers
  • Uplift juniors: Mentor junior creatives to develop their craft and creative thinking
  • Social Strategy: Oversee and guide sweetgreen’s social media presence, pushing creative ideas quickly out into the world, testing and optimizing to connect to cultural moments and build community
  • Partnerships: Work collaboratively with the ECD, Director of Brand and Design Director to establish, shape and grow relationships with creators who align with the sweetgreen partnership strategy
  • Guide campaigns: Lead campaign and creative output across touchpoints ranging from brand level to lower funnel
  • Create impactful brand moments: Bringing sweetgreen’s purpose to life through brand moments
  • Inform creative strategy: Work seamlessly with the ECD, Director of Brand and Design Director to develop brand and creative strategy, ensuring all creative concepts ladder up to overall business objectives 
  • Shepherd brand storytelling: Invent new storytelling approaches to flex the brand voice and leverage emerging platforms to start new conversations that matter most for sweetgreen’s future
  • Push boundaries: Understand what great work looks like, and hold the creative team to account while supporting them to exceed sweetgreen’s standards
  • Drive ambition: Work with ECD, Director of Brand and Design Director to create a vision for the team’s continued growth and recruit the best creatives in the world as both full-time and contract collaborators
  • Understand ops: Partner with ECD, Director of Brand, and Design Director, and EP to guide operations of the team, including planning, recruiting, and resourcing
  • Collaborate cross-functionally: Foster positive relationships with internal stakeholders to achieve brand and business goals

About you (minimum requirements):

  • 10+ years creative experience, creating high impact campaigns and creative work across a combination of agency, brand studio, and/or in-house, with measurable results to further the goals of an established organization or brand
  • 7+ years branding experience with an understanding of how to develop a brand from both a narrative and strategic perspective
  • A strong writing process and experience working toward solutions across various media and the ability to build a narrative across a range of formats
  • Expertise in collaboration and successful engagement working with multiple stakeholders to develop and execute campaigns and content
  • Experience collaborating closely with Brand management teams. Ability to translate market research, data, and strategy to creative solutions
  • Culturally curious and hyper connected—allows you to constantly be seeking new storytelling opportunities and ways to build brand equity with sweetgreen’s audience
  • Empathy for individuals on a creative team, their processes and motivations
