Job Summary:
The successful candidate will be responsible for supervising a crew of workforce in the production department or maintenance department depending on the needs of the mine. As production supervisor candidate will be responsible for supervising a crew of production employees involved in uncovering, removal, processing, and delivery of coal to the Customer and reclamation of mined land. As maintenance supervisor candidate will be responsible for supervising a crew of workforce employees consisting of mechanics, welders and electricians who repair and maintain mine equipment, dragline, and facilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Performs administrative duties associated with supervision, such as recording time worked, evaluating individual performance, counseling, or disciplining unacceptable behavior and assisting individuals with personal or performance problems with the assistance of Human Resources and Area Managers.
  • Coordinates work with other departments and shifts to minimize down time and maximize productivity in order to meet delivery schedules at the lowest cost per unit.
  • Plans, coordinates, and schedules production and maintenance work using personnel, material and equipment effectively.
  • Coordinates all safety activities, including training for the crew to comply with Company and MSHA safety standards.
  • Monitors work to ensure that environmental standards are met.
  • Monitors equipment component hours and productivity to establish current and future maintenance costs and predict equipment availability and performance. 
  • Performs job duties in accordance with MSHA law and regulations, company safety procedures, company policies, and state and federal environmental regulations.
  • Trains employees on equipment and tools to meet MSHA requirements.
  • Administers outside contractors.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications/Skills & Competencies

Required

  • Supervisory or fill-in supervisory experience is required along with a minimum of five years of surface mining experience.   
  • A two-year college degree may be substituted for up to two years of experience and a four-year degree substituted for up to three years of experience.  
  • Ability to lead and direct the work of crew members in an effective manner.
  • Ability to work shift work.
  • Must have North Dakota Mine Foreman certification or have the ability to obtain. 

Preferred

  • Knowledge of surface mining regulatory requirements relating to safety and environmental areas.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Basic computer knowledge preferred.

ANALYSIS OF PHYSICAL DEMANDS FOR POSITION:

  • Occasionally (0-1/3 of workday):  sitting; lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling (35 pounds or less); climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, handling, finger repetitive motion (computer terminal), foot/leg movement, speaking, depth perception (driving).
  • Frequently (1/3 – 2/3 of workday):  standing, walking (field research, inspections)
  • Continually (2/3 – 3/3 of workday):  hearing (receiving information, telephone, hazard recognition), seeing (to read resource documents, inspections, driving, hazard recognition).

NOTE:  Must work rotating shifts.  Ability to work outside in all weather extremes.
