Job Title: Operations Manager – Pico Rivera, California (Krieger Specialty Doors)

Reporting to the Plant Manager, the Operations Manager will lead all manufacturing activities at our Krieger Specialty Doors facility in Pico Rivera, CA. This role directs a supervisory team across multiple shifts and an hourly unionized workforce responsible for producing specialty door assemblies, hardware installation, finishing, and packaging. You will implement strategic initiatives, allocate resources effectively, and promote a culture focused on safety, quality, on-time delivery, cost efficiency, and continuous people development. A hands-on leader, you will drive operational excellence through lean initiatives, rigorous safety standards (including Cal/OSHA compliance), and cross-functional collaboration while working within the framework of the collective bargaining agreement.

What You Will Do:

  • Lead, mentor and develop a supervisory team across two shifts and an hourly unionized workforce to meet production, quality and safety targets.
  • Oversee all manufacturing operations—assembly, metal fabrication, machining, coating/finishing, hardware installation and packaging—to ensure efficient, safe, and on-time production of specialty door products.
  • Develop, communicate and execute operational plans in alignment with business objectives and the Annual Operating Plan (AOP).
  • Champion continuous improvement efforts and drive plant productivity by leading Kaizen events, A3 problem-solving, and other lean manufacturing initiatives facility-wide.
  • Ensure full compliance with Cal/OSHA, company safety standards and local regulations; proactively address hazards and promote a zero-injury culture.
  • Partner with Quality to monitor product standards, investigate deviations and implement corrective actions rapidly to protect customer satisfaction.
  • Optimize delivery performance by managing labor, equipment and workflow to meet customer demand and minimize bottlenecks.
  • Control costs—overtime, scrap and operational expenditures—by analyzing data and implementing efficiency measures.
  • Work closely with Engineering and New Product Development to support product launches, qualify processes, and ensure seamless production ramp-ups.
  • Foster employee engagement and skill development by identifying training needs, coaching supervisors, and promoting a positive workplace culture.
  • Conduct regular Gemba walks and audits to reinforce standards, engage frontline teams and uncover improvement opportunities.
  • Use engagement metrics and operational KPIs to track progress on cultural and performance initiatives.
  • Partner with EH&S, Supply Chain, Quality, Maintenance, HR, Finance and Labor Relations to drive plant-wide initiatives and achieve business goals.
  • Manage staffing plans and organizational structure within operations and maintenance to ensure readiness for volume changes and new product introductions.
  • Maintain an active presence on the manufacturing floor, spending the majority of your time engaged directly with operations and frontline teams.

Union- and Labor-Related Responsibilities:

  • Operate within the terms of the collective bargaining agreement (CBA) and ensure contract compliance in scheduling, overtime, seniority, promotions, discipline and other work rules.
  • Build and maintain productive working relationships with union representatives and stewards; conduct regular, respectful communication and joint problem-solving.
  • Work with HR and Labor Relations to manage grievances, discipline and investigations in accordance with contract provisions and company policy.
  • Participate in labor-management meetings, support contract implementation activities, and provide input for bargaining preparation as needed.
  • Apply creative staffing and scheduling solutions consistent with the CBA to meet production goals while minimizing labor cost impacts.

What You Will Need to Succeed:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Operations Management, Business or related discipline preferred.
  • 10–15+ years of progressive leadership experience in manufacturing operations, preferably in doors, metal fabrication, coating/finishing, or related industries.
  • Proven track record managing multi-shift supervisory teams and 100+ hourly associates in a unionized manufacturing environment.
  • Demonstrated experience working with collective bargaining agreements, grievance procedures, and labor relations practices.
  • Strong expertise in lean manufacturing principles and hands-on leadership of continuous improvement projects.
  • Deep understanding of manufacturing processes including assembly, machining, finishing and packaging.
  • Excellent leadership, interpersonal and communication skills, with high emotional intelligence; ability to build trust and accountability across the organization and with labor representatives.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities to address complex operational and labor-related challenges.
  • Unwavering commitment to safety, quality and continuous improvement.
  • Familiarity with Cal/OSHA requirements and California labor laws.
  • Flexibility to work variable shifts and occasional weekends as needed.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) skills a plus given the local workforce.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
